About Me
I CANNOT see likes. Please send a note if you're interested. And I'll respond if something in your profile resonates...

I appreciate gratitude in people and patience and a kind of joyful appreciation from someone who enjoys my company. And I enjoy expressing that too. I like to meditate. I like to cogitate and analyze the deep issues and I like relaxing into the realization that many questions are unanswerable...

My musical staples are: The Jam, Style (actually, Weller in all in his incarnations), Joy Division, New Order, Crowded House (both Finn Brothers), David Bowie, George Harrison, Roxy Music, Talk Talk, Depeche Mode, Portishead, The Cure, Talking Heads, Madrugada, Lisa Hannigan, Radiohead, Elvis Costello, ELO, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cocteau Twins, World Party, World Party, Emilie Simon, The Smiths, Pet Shop Boys, Belle & Sebastian, St. Etienne, Nick Cave, Beth Orton, Richard Ashcroft, Citizen Cope, Everything But the Girl, Erasure, Beirut, Amos Lee, Nina Simone, Mazzy Star, Nick Lowe, Johnny Marr, Brian Eno, Blow Monkeys, John Coltrane, Andre Segovia, Debussy, and more...

I’m a voracious reader. Some of my favorite literary minds include: Turgenev, Beckett, Hesse, Calvino, Mann, Kafka, Vargas, Gide, Yourcenar, Lorca, Rumi, Krishnamurthi, Watts, Tagore, Strand, Cummings, Blake, Yeats, Somerset Maugham, Carver, Berger, Proust, Saadi, Hafiz, and more...

There are many artists who have influenced me over the years. Paula Rego for getting lost in her strong figurative world. Basquiat, for his directness. Ron Meuck for the spirit he breathes into his sculptures, Pierro della Francesca, Masaccio, and Ucello for perfection and beauty, Dali and Vermeer for their magical handling of paint, Giotto for his naive genius, Francis Bacon and Ivan Albright for their raw energy and magnificence, Mark Rothko for his scale, Caravaggio for marriage of humility and sheer genius (and I'm only referencing the humility of his subjects not his personal life for those who are quick to point out his less than stellar morals), Rembrandt for his lack of hubris and desire to really capture emotional rawness, Willem De Kooning for turning the female body inside out and showing her strength, Giacometti, Moore, Maillol, Bourgeois, and others for showing me that sculpture can evoke raw emotion and splendor.

I love the pleasure a taste can give you. A beautiful dish can inspire the perfect taste sensation. I have always felt that cooking is like painting. You taste, you sense what is missing, you add a flavor. It's a blending process; looking for as near perfection as you are able.

Last bit certainly not least- tennis! It creates the most serene state in my mind. I'm my happiest on a court. It's the purest form of meditation for me. Nothing is more beautiful than managing to keep a long rally in place...
