Grew up on an Alabama dirt farm, but mother gave me an appreciation of the finer things in life and of higher education. Moved to Pittsburg, PA when I was 12, upon graduating high school I returned to Birmingham for college. Retired military and lived overseas for 11 years of a 20 year career. Then was a government contractor, retired from the “rat race” permanently in 2012. In 2010 lost my wife of 27 years after a 3 year journey with cancer. I am looking forward enjoying a spectrum of activities in the future. Like a wide band of different music, fishing, skeet shooting, riding my Harley, travel, good books, cooking, most anything of interest. I enjoy entertaining and cooking for people, and am not opposed to trying new things and going to new places. When working, I'm totally immersed and devoted to the job. I am proud of my morals and overall good character, holding certain values very preciously, such as honesty, integrity, and loyalty. I am a very straight shooter and believe that what goes around comes around, and there will be a “weighing of the balances” just maybe not on this earth. I believe that a lasting relationship requires both parties to give and take. In my opinion there are three things that are very important in a relationship: 1) there can never be enough "Thank You" and I Love You said, 2) the ability to admit mistakes and able to say "I'm Sorry" from the heart, and 3) Recognize and communicate appreciation of what your partner brings to life. I am a sincere and fun individual, have a good sense of humor, will laugh with you, at you and at myself. My closest friends might describe me as intelligent, interesting, fun, and caring. Life is all about changing, and so it is with me, and I'm ready for the next chapter. I'd like to meet someone upbeat, positive, and easy-going. Humor and spontaneity are a big plus. Can't say I look for a certain hair color or height or build, but it is important to be confident, non-judgmental, open-minded, and not afraid to let loose, laugh, and enjoy life. I believe relationships require work and dedication to keep them strong. She will be someone that likes spending time together, enjoys some of the same interests or we can find new common interests. Each still able to enjoy their singular interests, but also have shared time and interest together making a more strong enduring relationship. She likes balance in life regarding work, activities and quiet times at home. Neither of us can read minds, so communication is important to make certain both person’s needs are being met. Family is very important to me. I am very respectful and understanding of someone's relationship with their kids and expect the same in return. Equally important is to become friends and be a soft place to fall when life gets tough. If any of this resonates with you....then let’s get together and start a new journey
Conversation Starters (i.e. what you'd like to do on a first date...)
It should be a casual, simple, meet and greet at a venue that is comfortable to both parties and mutually agreed upon by both persons. Possibilities could be a cup of coffee shared together, a walk in a park, or a more expanded encounter such as lunch or dinner. Hopefully some laughter and good conversation to see if the two care to move beyond that point to progress to a real date, or just shake hands and depart as friends First real dates should be memorable, something both would remember.
