Heya, I'm a grad student recently moved to Ottawa from "out East" for school. Such is the nature of Ottawa that I thought I'd give the ol' interweb a try at furthering my personal life.
I enjoy relating pop-culture icons to otherwise serious philosophical issues in essay form. I like cooking and all things related. Every few years, I throw off the shackles of academia and go cook. It's cathartic.
I have a dry wit, with a strong personality. I strive to like all fine things from Bach and classical political theory, to Chet Baker and pork-pie hats, to my addiction to Gizmodo and bingeing on three seasons of CYE, BSG, or Deadwood in one sitting. I might have seen every Woody Allen movie ever, but I'm also rather overconfident at times. I like CBC1 on Saturday mornings, but also download the Radio3 podcast. My apartment smells of rich mahogany.*
Although it might seem like I seriously engage myself in a whole lot of media (writing takes up a lot of my time), I like to get together with friends and have the odd drink on the weekends, and run the canal in the summer.
I like the company of people who do not take themselves too seriously, laugh a lot, are able to carry on a half-decent level of conversation, and don't have serious issues with their parents.
One last thing: if you have not the ability to use an apostrophe, at the very least, let's not talk.
*note: I do not wear a pork-pie hat, nor do I have any mahogany. I have no leather-bound books.
Conversation Starters (i.e. what you'd like to do on a first date...)
Hmmm. Does Ottawa have good sushi? No? Rideau Centre food court it is!
[Update: good sushi found.]
No, just kidding. I'd like to find a good wine bar, or a half-decent pint.
