About Me

I am Harvey.

I consider myself to be adventurous, spontaneous, deep, passionate and very open-minded. I also admire these qualities in other people. I respect people who think for themselves and don't blindly conform to norms and social conventions. Nothing annoys me more than herd-mentality and unquestioning obedience.

I think that the concepts of 'success' and 'happiness' that are rammed down our throats from cradle to grave are bullsh*t and that these can only ever be defined on our own terms. I have no interest in the rat race or accumulating all of the useless sh*t that advertising tells us we need. Keeping up with the Jones' is far from one of my priorities. Having to sell forty hours of my life every week just to scrape by angers me. Especially because spending eight hours of my day doing menial tasks ultimately leaves me too drained and exhausted afterwards to be doing the things I'd really like to be doing. If money was no object, I'd be travelling the world, having adventures, meeting unique and interesting people and writing about it all. My head is firmly and proudly in the clouds.

The way that 'civilisation' is heading saddens me and I don't see much hope for the future if things carry on at this rate. It annoys me that the majority of the population can't pull themselves away from the television screen long enough to realise what's really going on in the world and most don't even care to begin with. It also annoys me that the mass media feeds us so much propaganda, lies and half-truths and people soak it up without question like a sponge. I find it frustrating that modern society has decayed to such an extent that people find it necessary to distract themselves with various forms of mindless escapism 24/7 in a desperate attempt to fill the inner void that inevitably entails from living in a consumeristic and superficial capitalist society. A great person once said: "Much of our activity these days is nothing more than a cheap anesthetic to deaden the pain of an empty life". I couldn't agree more.

My worst fear in life is mediocrity. F*ck settling for anything less than extraordinary. Life's too short to waste away on trivial bullsh*t and I'm determined to lead an interesting life and make my mark on this world. I've realised over the years that pretty much anything is achievable providing you believe in yourself and you're willing to get off your a*** and make it happen.

Ideally I would like to meet somebody who is intelligent, open-minded and like-minded. Age and appearance are less important for me than the ability to have a decent conversation...

Things I like:

Music, music production, reading, writing, thinking, travelling, spontaneity, individuality, daydreaming, intelligence, self-education, creativity, open-mindedness, meeting interesting and like-minded people, positivity, sunny weather, Muay Thai, road trips, low-budget/independent films, counter culture, black humour, constructive argument, David Icke, Bill Hicks, Charles Bukowski, Japanese horror movies, profound conversations, sincerity, integrity, modesty, determination...

Things I dislike:

Superficiality, ignorance, stupidity, materialism, the mass media, the mass 'education' system, propaganda, deception, globalisation, capitalism, idle chit-chat, wage slavery, apathy, self-loathing, defeatism, attention seeking, drama queens, pettiness, egocentrism, consumerism, mainstream Western culture, fake people, unquestioning obedience, celebrity worship, soap operas, reality TV, gossip, pessimism, corporations, commercial music, banality, pretentiousness, unjustified arrogance and attitude...

I have an eclectic taste in music. As long as it's made with passion and integrity I'll give it a chance. I mostly listen to: Underground hip-hop, trip-hop, downtempo, breakbeat, ska, reggae, dub and drum and bass but am always looking for fresh inspiration...

Mainly documentaries and low budget/independent films. I especially like zombie movies, Japanese horror and generally anything intelligent, imaginative and original.

Favourite directors: George Romero, Lucio Fulci, David Lynch, Peter Jackson, Gus Van Sant, Darren Aronofsky, Dario Argento...

Favourite quotes:

"My final point about alchohol, about drugs, about pornography...What business is it of your's what I do, read, buy, see or take into my body as long as I don't harm another human being whilst on this planet? And for those of you having a little moral dilemna on how to answer this, I'll answer for you. NONE OF YOUR F*CKING BUSINESS. Take that to the bank, cash it and take it on a vacation outta my f*cking life." - Bill Hicks

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein
