On what foundation does one build something lasting and treasured?
Do you build it upon the foundation of holding hands and friendly hugs? Do you build it upon the foundation of scurrying about from one activity to another? Do you build it upon daily scintillating conversation?
At our age, with no kids to raise, no mutual projects or undertakings, what is the best, the very best foundation.... for a lasting and treasured..... and.... most importantly....."strong" relationship?
“Man staggers through life yapped at by his reason, pulled and shoved by his appetites, whispered to by fears, beckoned by hopes.
This is an excellent and concise insight into the human condition from my mentor, Eric Hoffer. I've always been a philosopher and look at the world through a philosopher's eyes.
Hoffer was saying that life is difficult, and that forces from within and without are always working upon us, and at times confusing us.
So it is a struggle to make sense of it all, let alone lead a good life. Therefore I highly value those who are competent and honest at the same time. And by competence I mean dealing, or at minimum trying to deal, with all aspects of your life well.
Competence and Honesty....Competence and Honesty....this is what I look for most in a person.
All this doesn't mean I can't engage in lighthearted chit-chat....I can do that too as I've always been a cheerful sort.
