My fall from grace is almost complete.
These were men who saw life as it is, yet they died despairing.
No glory, no gallant last words ... only their eyes filled with confusion, whimpering the question:
I do not think they asked why they were dying, but why they had lived.
The Man Of La Mancha
I am a 57 year old man who lives by himself in a wee hoose in
I do not offer much and in return i do not expect much from anyone.
But feel free to ask me any questions you feel you may want to ask.
You will get an honest answer.
I have varied interests which include in no particular order football, reading,
music, politics, current affairs, the t'interweb, carry on films and good British
I find political correctness, liberalism and organised religion to be a blight
upon ordinary folk getting on with their lives.
And as for those who get their knickers in a twist finding offence and
being offended by anything and everything you would do well to read these
words uttered by Stephen Fry.
"It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.
' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine.
'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be
respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so ****ing what."
I support Hibernian F.C and i read many books of various genres. At the moment
i am reading a memoir of a german panzer grenadier who fought on the eastern
front in ww2. And i await a book about William T Anderson who led guerrilla forces
in the american civil war which included jesse and frank james and little archie clements.
I like British 'kitchen sink' dramas. Kes, Saturday night Sunday morning,
A Taste of Honey etc etc
My all time favourite film is Nil By Mouth.
Music wise it would be mainly indie with The Smiths being top of the tree.
Joy Division, Death In June, Nick Cave being old favourites. I like Steve
Earle and a lot of the Americana genre. And Johnny Cash with the American
Recordings. His version of Hurt and The Mercy Seat are blinding. And also
on the Dracul playlist is Ryan Adams. His Love Is Hell album is very good
Most of what i listen to could be described as miserablist and
shoegazing but i can be a non miserable person. Sometimes.
Also i find dancing to be a meaningless exertion but then that's
just me, it bothers me not if anyone else enjoys the meaningless
I enjoy conversation whether serious or shite i can do both fluently. I
also enjoy the forums on here and have made some new mates. A
big salutation to Raggedy a***, Mossy and MT the shermans.
I do not scuba dive, hike or mountain climb.
I have been described as having all the energy of a sloth in a coma.
I only shave when i need or want to, i do not iron clothes as a rule,
i do not cook and indeed do not have a cooker.
I eat most foods but have a dislike of carrots and sprouts
I do recognise my faults which are many and i do tend to
snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
But it's who i am and what i am.
There's nothing in my dreams just some ugly memories.
Why waste valuable time on people who don't care if you live or die?
Ae Fond Kiss, And Then We Sever
Ae fond kiss, and then we sever;
Ae fareweel, alas, for ever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.
Who shall say that Fortune grieves him,
While the star of hope she leaves him?
Me, nae cheerful twinkle lights me;
Dark despair around benights me.

Raise a glass and drink a toast to wasted lives.
