About Me
Laid-back, opinionated, witty (well...i try) looking for like-minded individuals, who can appreciate the good things in life, laugh at themselves, work in a soup kitchen on cold winter nights. I enjoy all and everything that gets me out of my flat, on a plane, gets me active, or allows me to chill; esp fond of travel, art, world politics, food, drink, merriment.
[The following is from another website! Apologies for the lack of innovation here!]
What I’m doing with my life
I'm trying to make a positive albeit humble contribution to the world through my work. I work at a university, so when I'm not teaching or doing tedious admin. work, I am writing or traveling.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Tough categories. I have an insatiable appetite for all four things.
I love world literature, biographies, books on politics, religion, art, and psychology. In terms of fiction, favorites include: Feast of the Goat; Dirty Havana Trilogy; Love in the Time of Cholera; Mahfouz’s Cairo Trilogy; I Saw Ramallah; Things Fall Apart; The Shadow Lines; The Unbearable Lightness of Being; Perfume; In Cold Blood; Pride and Prejudice; A Fine Balance; Catch-22; Hamlet. That was hard! I will have to think about my non-fiction list and share it another time.
Favorite films include: Rashomon; Battle of Algiers; Seventh Seal; Old Boy; Wages of Fear; Amores Perros; Breathless; Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown; In the Mood for Love; Chungking Express; The Godfather I/II; Scarface; Saturday Night Fever; Shaft; Cleopatra Jones; Half-Nelson; The Notebook; Say Anything...; Love Jones; The Breakfast Club; Dirty Dancing; A Clockwork Orange; The Sound of Music; District 9; Memento; Fight Club; The Wrestler; Kiss Kiss Bang Bang; Superbad; Finding Nemo; Wall-E; good Bollywood
Music: I prefer hip hop, RnB, funk, afro-beat, classical, world music; esp. Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, The Roots, Mos Def, Outkast, Lupe Fiasco, MF Doom, Morcheeba, Mulatu Astatke, Fairuz, Pergolesi, Parliament, Fela Kuti, contemporary Bollywood, I could go on…
