"Trying to be fascinating... is an asinine position to be in." -- Katharine Hepburn
I'm not that different from everyone else. I'm just me. A few quirks and foibles here and there. Even though I'm starting to look my age I still don't act it. Probably never will.
I like to be outdoors, hiking, biking, motorcycling, sightseeing, going for a walk pretty regularly. I like to be indoors and listen to all kinds of music -- mostly jazz and blues with real classic rock turned up to 11 on Friday nights. I like to watch good movies and a few select TV shows, know the news and make the time to read a good book . I like going to the movies, concerts and the theatre occasionally. I like to go swing dancing now and then. The DC area is full with art and exhibitions that I like to attend. Isamu Noguchi is my artistic connection to the universe.
I like to travel. I like to go places I've never been and take a look around the next bend in the road just to see what's there. I like to take photos of what I find. I take good ones.
I like weather... because it changes and there's nothing you can do about it... except enjoy or endure.
I'd like to share these things with someone who enjoys some, most or all of the above. Someone who has abiding concern about our environment, our planet, our politics and their fellow human. Who thinks people ought to be nice to each other just because. Someone who has opinions and curiosity and especially, a few enjoyments of their own they'd like to share.
I'm a tactile person. The guards at the galleries have to keep an eye on me. I like touching the essence of another person and what they want to share with the world... or me. I like to reach out and see what comes back. See where a touch lands and what it discovers. Exploration can take a long time. And then there's always the affectionate fanny pat or neck nuzzle. I'm a fool for a snug hug and my massages aren't half bad either.
I can count more hiking boots and sport shoes in my closet than dress shoes. And bike jersey's run about 3:1 on suit coats, but I still have enough of each to get the job done. Actually my closet is overstuffed. That's what happens when you still wear the same size you wore 20 yrs ago.
I have those sticky roller brushes to get the pet hair off when I need to, otherwise I don't even notice. Dogs and I understand each other.
I didn't used to understand kids. Now, since I've raised my own... I do. They're just like adults only without the undisclosed agenda... A lot like dogs.
Sometimes I feel like I could write like Hemingway, you know, grow the beard, wear cable-knit sweaters, use a manual typewriter, go fishing on charter boats, drink a lot. Then I think, what!?, Are you stupid!? Remember "white out"!? Remember hangovers?! Remember long days of not catching anything?! Damn, that's tedious. I'm not into tedious. (sic)
I'm into olives. I put them in salads, marinara, soups, and especially my martinis (of course, gin. There's no other kind.)
"Olive me, why don't you take olive me." Sorry Willie. (I'm prone to such groaners, be forewarned.)
Popeye had a thing for Olive Oyl. Bet they had fun. If nothing else, it was tasty!
Conversation Starters (i.e. what you'd like to do on a first date...)
A first date is for after a first meeting. For that we should keep it simple, light on the atmosphere so that the conversation can rise to an interesting level. I like taking walks together if the weather is amenable. Otherwise some place not too crowded.
