About Me
I may be old(er), but I'm not done yet! I'd love to have a guy friend for visits to museums, movies, hikes, bird-watching and other explorations of our fabulous bay area. Nothing serious! I have lots of girl friends and married-couple friends, but I miss male companionship.
A youthful 67 years old, I'm curious, healthy, and love exploring new places and having new experiences. My undergraduate major was Anthropology, and though I eventually figured out that teaching was a more financially secure profession, I've never lost my fascination with other cultures. I'd much rather visit the State Indian Museum in Sacramento or learn about the immigrant Chinese poets of Angel Island than go to a Giants game. Reading, walking, cooking, gardening, camping, listening to jazz, blues, and world music are some of the other things I enjoy in my leisure time.
I've lived overseas with the Peace Corps and beyond, and I speak Spanish. For many years I taught 5th grade and Special Education and though I'm retired, I still teach one or two days a week, helping troubled kids graduate from High School. I'm a political junkie, an atheist (yes, I said the "a" word), very liberal, and probably a bit of a "bleeding heart" in the sense that I see the good in other people and tend to trust them until they give me reason not to. That said, through my travels I've become pretty intuitive and can quickly tell when someone is being less than honest with me.
I was married for 25 years and I don't see myself doing that again. I enjoy my independence. I'm looking for someone who's easy-going, curious, a good listener and yet isn't intimidated by silence; by nature I'm rather quiet and serious. But I'm hoping to meet someone with an adventurous spirit, within reason (let's leave the sky-diving and the four-wheeling to the youngsters) who will join me on my lifelong exploration of this amazing planet.
