***************** Temporary Update *****************
I'm in sort of a weird position right now. First of all, I'll be moving away from Pittsburgh in September, hopefully to California. Second, I'm super busy with work every day (weekends included) and most evenings. It seems weird to get into anything. On the other hand: in the little free time I do have, it would be nice to have someone else to do things with! If you're in a similar situation, or for whatever other reason it works for you, I'd love to hear from you!!
***************** ***************** ****************
I recently finished a PhD at Cornell in NY, now a postdoc at Pitt.
I've been jumping from thing I want to do to thing I want to do for a long time now, and it's worked really well for me. I've been exceptionally fortunate to have had the opportunities that I've been presented with!
I love experiencing new people/places/things/foods/etc.!!
I like to socialize a fair bit more than many of my friends, but what that's ended up doing is allowing me to have several different great groups of people to do things with.
I like to make people laugh. I like to be made to laugh.
I like spontaneity. Midnight breakfast at a diner? I'm in. Last minute day trip? Yes please! Out of nowhere quiet night in with a movie? Maybe not so exciting...but I love that too.
I spend way, way, way too much time in coffee shops. To be fair, I'm usually doing school work.
I like to stay fit, and work out at least a little bit every day (going for fit--I don't like the huge meathead look).
I like going out to live performances--music, theatre, etc., they're all fun.
I'm a philosophy (of science) PhD student at Cornell--2 of 6 years left. I'll be a professor [somewhere warm?] eventually.
Before graduate school I spent a few years on a team managing IT security for the Caribbean operations of a bank. Before that I did a BSc in physics, along with some philosophy, at the University of Toronto (where I grew up).
I love photography--and am pretty good at it, if I do say so myself. I just started using Instagram: iansphonephotos
I've been lucky enough to spend time all around North America, and in South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. I love board games! Like Scrabble/Words With Friends? Let's play! I play guitar--I've played for a long time, but I'm not sure that it shows...
