Guys, please have a sense of humor about the meet me feature. Most of the time POF sends me potential dates who live between 1 1/2 and 2 and 1/2 hours away. If I say no based on the distance, they say they can't find anyone fitting my specific criteria for a possible partner. So I look at what makes you tick in your profiles, and if it's good enough, I say "Maybe", and let you decide if you want to cover the distance. Don't scold me if it's far away. I said "Maybe" because I thought you had something else that was intriguing so it was a compliment..
I'm a little old fashioned about how I want a guy to interact with me, so I'm hesitant to call a man, even if he gives me his phone number. I like the man to take the reins and show me how interested he is in meeting me. If you are interested, let me know. If you put me in your favorites list or if it's a mutual match, make the first move, and give me a message to respond to.
To those to whom it may be of interest, I have a CDL A, and with my ex, did all 48 and Canada for over a decade.
I'm interested in and curious about almost all aspects of life, people, the universe, you name it. . My right and left brain are somewhat ambidextrous I think cause I love both science and art in almost equal measure. I think about religion, and other philosophical subjects, and the more I know, the less dogmatic I become about my long held opinions. The school of hard knocks has taught me that!
I have moderately conservative views and values, and wish that we could all live by the Golden Rule, while acknowledging the frailty of human nature and the human condition, and knowing the importance of giving "the benefit of the doubt" since, being human I'm in need of it myself. I'm an idealist who understands that there may be a vast gap between the "ideal" and the "real", so we strive forever to reach the ideal, and recognize that it may be unattainable, but never stop trying to get close.
I love all kinds of music, but I guess my personal favorites are an eclectic mixture of pop/rock/country/easy listening/new age/(and fill in the blanks) Not a fan of hip hop, rap, heavy metal, or even a steady diet of any one specific type. I like melodic rather than discordant music, that can be sung or hummed pretty easily. Not bubble gum, but something interesting and/or sweet. I'm not stuck in any one genre or era when it comes to music.
I have 4 children (three daughters and one son) who are all now in early middle age. They've given me 14 grandchildren and one great granddaughter and a new great grandson (so far). I love them dearly.
I also have 3 little Papillons (little toy lapdogs, bred to supposedly resemble a butterfly by French royalty hundreds of years ago ), and am an animal lover however, I have no time, money, nor inclination to get ga ga and stupid about them. I just love them. Through the love of my little dogs I've grown to love all animals, so any of you who have cats or birds or ferrets or whatever, can feel relaxed about your pets when it comes to thinking of me as a partner.
I love movies and my interest is very broad as far as types go. I especially like comedies and thrillers. Not into horror in general, because I usually think it's either really gross or really stupid or both. I love movies that are exciting and scary (the scariest things are things that could REALLY HAPPEN) or idiotically hilarious. I love a little wry, witty, and dry humor too. I want a guy with a good ability to see the general idiocy in so much of life and be able to wink at a lot of it.
I love dancing but am not great at it. But if a man likes holding me and sort of rocking in time to the music, with my head on his chest or shoulder, that's fine with me.
I love nature and could be happy taking walks in the woods at any time of year, just taking in the sights and scents. I can get fascinated by a creek and all the little living things in and near it.
I love white water rafting and would love to do a daylong trip at least once a year. I love going boating in fresh or salt water. I like to fish too although I'm far from expert at it.
I love traveling and have been to every state in the contiguous 48 as well as Hawaii. I've been to Canada several times, and to Oahu Hawaii, but never to Alaska. I've also travelled to South Africa, to the city of Durban where my mother was born and her family still lives. I would love, and I do mean LOVE, to go out in a motor home with a "good on gas" , high mpg car towed behind, and stop and stay for relatively long periods of time at certain places around the country, and do a little digging in and poking around to really "learn" the area.
I love LOVE, in all it's aspects. I'm very sensual and I guess that makes me lucky because so many women in my age group have completely lost their libido. I haven't. Of course it isn't much fun if you have no one to lavish your love on. I know there are plenty of takers who ONLY want sex. I don't. I want the who nine yards (no pun intended). More about all of that when I meet the right guy. :-)
I like yard sales, thrift shops, flea markets and places where you may unearth a treasure. The hunt is half the fun.
I love to read and always have a book in progress. I love certain TV shows, such as CSI, Criminal Minds, House, Bones, the big documentary nature specials like Blue Planet, and that type of thing, Modern Marvels, etc., etc. Also, certain shows on Masterpiece Theater.
I love technology and gadgets, even though I'm not that versed on the behind the scenes science that makes them work. That stuff catches my attention and holds it.
There's so much more but those things would best be shared with the guy I know is out there who wants and needs me, as I want and need him. A partner for life. So, if you're the one, please send me a message. There's not a lifetime to waste anymore, so let's get busy.
I'd like to spend the first date talking over a cup of coffee or something, at a cafe or diner unless you have a restaurant in mind. I'm open to suggestion (up to a point at least :-)
If the weather is gorgeous then I'd love to spend some time outside maybe with a picnic lunch or supper, and some wine and cheese. Sitting on a blanket and watching a creek or stream meander by can put a person in a mood for quiet conversation.
At times I've thought that it might be fun to spend a first date like one we would have had as teenagers. A hamburger and a malted, then a movie, or movie first then the burger, just because if you don't necessarily find one another that attractive, you at least have the movie to talk about. And if you do find one another very attractive, you have a memory with the person.
