POF asks what makes us unique. I think people notice about me my goofy physical humor and witty wordplay; plus I can quote a song (or invent one) that fits almost any given moment. But the biggest piece of the "unique" puzzle is God's purpose for the gifts He has put in me. I want to be a female Mister Rogers for many generations of children: singing, pretending, creating, exploring, and lots of learning from new experiences. Friends have described me as the Pied Piper, leading a parade of kids instead of mice!
There is some unique man whose gifts complement mine -- and vice/versa -- toward humor or children or education or the arts or some mystery arena. How will God use my husband and me together?
This man I want to marry likes my cooking (lotsa meat, pasta, veggies, fruits, chocolate, wine, spices, and improvisation) because that's how I show love; he shows me love every time he cleans up after my projects. My hero! He deeply receives the love languages I give, words of praise and physical touch, and he gives me love in the way I need to receive it: quality time, and LOTS of freedom to stay late at events gabbing with people. He thinks the music I write is cool and digs into the details of it. He makes more money than I do and does not depend on me financially. He initiates and shows courage even when he is afraid to act, confront, communicate, or apologize. He shows me patient grace. I respect this man.
Thank God for my music colleague, John, who teaches me about trust, faithfulness, and having a heart for Jesus Christ and His agenda in any setting. There is no spark of attraction between John and me; but he has taught me how to communicate with him to bring out the best in him. I do not realize how I come across sometimes, how I would paralyze him. So I value learning to challenge him positively in our partnership. He says that working with me has blessed him with confidence and abilities he didn't know were in him. His girlfriend agrees! So if you ask, "What would the band say about your tendency to _________?" I'll let you know what the band says. :)
My taste in music is leaning toward Brazilian artists Marisa Monte, A.C. Jobim, etc. Also musical theater, like Andrew Lloyd Webber and Leonard Bernstein. From a previous relationship I now appreciate Echo & the Bunnymen, Morrissey, the Smiths, and Siouxsie & the Banshees. But I still need my EWF, Prince, Chaka Khan, Kool & the Gang, Spinners, Saga, Van Halen, Journey, Duran Duran, Def Leppard (I can't help it), Led Zeppelin, MJ, Beatles, Wings, Talking Heads, Harry Connick, Jr.; etc. Must not forget Sheryl Crow, Reverend Horton Heat, Alison Krauss, Imogen Heap, Queen, Yes, Rush, Elvis Costello, Billy Joel, Huey Lewis & the News, Train, Sting, The Police, Bruce Springsteen, Blondie, Stevie Wonder, Cleo Laine, Deathcab For Cutie, Brownout, Spoon, T-Bird & the Breaks, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Miller, Lyle Lovett, Ian Moore, Ray Charles, Nina Simone, Arcade Fire, Phoenix, Radiohead, Gorillaz, all those Funk-a-licious 70s bands, say when... discovered blues goddess Dayna Kurtz in 2012, craaaaazy about her.
Thanks for reading. Here's to many fun fishing trips.
