I am usually, though not always, reserved in meeting people for the first time. However, I can be quite extroverted at times. I would describe my humor as a combination of light sarcasm combined with a little craziness. I like traveling and seeing new places. I enjoy reading, movies, TV, sports (ultimate frisbee is a favorite), hanging with friends - conversing over food and/or drinks, dancing. I would like to start traveling more. I would also like to explore my local area to a greater degree.
I love to learn and figure out things about the world and myself. I am concerned about the world around me. I am intellectually curious and have dry sense of humor. I find sports (ultimate frisbee is a favorite) a fun way to improve myself physically. I enjoy reading, movies, and conversing with friends over food/drinks.
I like traveling and seeing new places. I would like to start traveling more. I would also like to explore my local area to a greater degree. And while I love to speak second language, I am really not good at doing so. I have been trying since the 5th grade (French, Spanish, German) - and I was an international relations major in college - such a shame.
I like to dance, although I wouldn't say that I am that good at it. I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, even though I was born and raised in Iowa. I don't understand much of modern art. When I see live performances, I usually see dance or plays. While I watch and enjoy all the typical "guy" movies, I have a strange affinity for romantic comedies.
What I’m doing with my life:
After working for six years at an international development NGO, I find myself back in academia.
I’m really good at:
remembering faces, not remembering names, being intellectually curious, not being a handyman, and dangling participles.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food:
Food: Indian, Mediterranean, really good sandwiches

Books: A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving; A Very Long Engagement by Sebastien Japrisot; About a Boy by Nick Hornby; books by Jack Whyte; books by Robert Jordan; and books by George R.R. Martin.
The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell; It is one of the best retellings of the Arthurian legends, especially in that it grounds the story in historical realities.
Movies: Her; Snow Flower and the Secret Fan; 13 Assassins; The Man From Nowhere; “Three Colors” Trilogy by Kieslowski; Shall We Dance? (Japan); Amelie; Cinema Paradiso; Sophie Scholl; The Lives of Others; Notting Hill; Love Actually; Where the Heart Is; Say Anything; The Notebook; 500 Days of Summer; Next Stop Wonderland; The Lady Eve (1941); The Cameraman (1928); Sliding Doors; Jerry Maguire; Wedding Crashers; The Man From Snowy River; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind; Moulin Rouge; Stranger Than Fiction; Children of a Lesser God; Marilyn Hotchkiss’s Ballroom Dancing and Charm School; An Unfinished Life; Anne of Green Gables; Fiddler on the Roof; Walk the Line; O Brother, Where Art Thou?; Schindler’s List; Memento; Chariots of Fire; Cool Hand Luke, etc.
The six things I could never do without:
my iPhone since I always have it with me….and the Internet…and electricity, but it’s just people that I could never do without….and water….
I spend a lot of time thinking about:
school and the future. I also wonder if politics can be constructive and hope that the ebola outbreak in West Africa can be contained and ended.
On a typical Friday night I am:
out with friends, watching Netflix, and/or wondering if I should be studying.
You should message me if:
Preferably because you think that we might get along.
