I've decided dating online or otherwise right now is a horrible catch-22...I'm also firmly optimistic that the woman who "gets it" is still out there waiting to be found. I left the Navy after eight years to pursue my dream of becoming an engineer. I attend UC San Diego and will have a degree in environmental engineering in a year and change. Here's where it gets tricky. Women my age are usually firmly established in their career and looking to settle down. My time spent in the lab and doing homework makes that a challenge. Some women on campus are put off by my age and maturity; the ones who prefer older guys are looking for someone who has already graduated and has a solid job. Hence my conundrum.
I'm intelligent, witty, charming, and funny...and not just a legend in my own mind. I'm a steadfast and loyal companion, friend, and amateur therapist to my social circle. I find my zen in the outdoors, be it a sunset over the ocean, a walk on the beach, a local trail (if you own a copy of Afoot and Afield in San Diego County message me NOW), and camping or hiking in several of the beautiful California State Parks. I take road trips to the Sierras and Yosemite to find the path less traveled. I surf when I can, and standup paddleboard as well. I enjoy fine dining and trying to make partially burnt replicas at home. I prefer IPAs over anything else, and enjoy a good craft****ail or whiskey or scotch on the rocks. I'm well read and always looking to expand my already overflowing collection of books. A weekend project of building an additional bookshelf is in the works. As well as a garden box in my backyard to grow my own fruits and veggies. Yes, I'm basically a hippie with testosterone. And a nerd/geek with a bro side. I'll debate who is the best Doctor and why Joss Whedon is a real-life vampire in Hollywood. I'll also enthrall you with endless statistics about the Red Sox and why they are the greatest team in baseball ever. Ever. I could go into politics (local and national--I keep track of both), religion, economics, etc...but that would either excite you or inflame you. Bottom line I've got more layers than an onion (ogre pun intended). I'm just looking for someone who resonates with my self-description and wants to know more. If you get it, I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
I'll take care of planning that. It will either be low-key, something where we can talk and get to know each other, or adventurous where we can look back at the end of it and say "Yeah...we did that together. And it was pretty awesome."
