About Me
Yo, I've moved to Vancouver after traveling Europe to see if I can still stomach this whole university/learning thing. I've already graduated, but BA's aren't exactly in the highest demand right now, and unless I want to (continue to) be picking out of garbage cans for the rest of my life, I'll need to get something more. I've got an offer to do a master's degree at McGill, but I might stay here in Vancouver and do an accelerated Computer Science degree. We'll see!
I have a BA in PPE (Political Science, Economics and Philosophy) Studies. This degree is for people that either want to go to law school, want to pretend to be smart (the ACTUALLY smart people are in sciences), or both. I was in the "both" category at one point, but I ultimately realized that I liked the idea of going to law school a lot more than I liked the idea of actually becoming a lawyer. I'm glad I made this revelation, because my personality type does not suit being a lawyer at all. I'll settle for pretending to be smart for now.
If I were to describe my personality, I'd say that I'm a bit unconventional. I beat to my own drum to a certain extent and don't always follow or agree with social norms. In interactions with people, be they romantic or otherwise, you'll find me trying to make people laugh, have a good time, and generally feel good. Generally, you won't find me putting people down and complaining about trivial things. You especially won't find me complaining about why people press the crosswalk button, seemingly convinced that their miraculous, God-given button-pressing touch will part the grey sea of concrete and steel and enlighten the rest of us heathen pedestrians who were incapable of such a divinely inspired revelation...when I'm clearly standing right beside the button and have already pressed it before they came.
Stuff that I like to do includes:
-Playing guitar. Electric. Blues, funk and Hendrix/John Mayer-ish type stuff. Hendrix is my main man, though. Pretty much everything I've learned on the guitar has come from studying his playing style. I also played piano for my entire childhood and got fairly decent at it. I don't get the chance to play one often anymore, but I still enjoy it when I get the chance. P.S. You can check out my music at http://soundcloud.com/loewen-ranger !!! Right now it's just a series of jams, but I'd like for it to turn into something more.
-Doing some sort of physical activity. Sports of choice include soccer and hockey. Unfortunately, I'm now at the point where I need to stretch for 5 hours to play a game for half an hour without having an arm or leg fall off. I also played rugby recently for the first time since grade 8. It hurt. Stuff like hiking, walking, and working out are also fun.
-Anything that is some permutation of fun, stupid and creative. And if I come across a situation that is lacking in fun, stupidity and creativity, I'll do my best to rectify it! Except at my old job, where I wasn't allowed to have any fun and certainly wasn't allowed to be stupid. These are some of the many reasons why I left it.
