Well let's see... I'm a fan of summer thunderstorms, fresh water lakes, the Adirondacks, covered front porches, flip flops and going barefoot. I love what I do, am a classical musician and enjoy swimming to keep in shape. Major****son's wafts thru my home most mornings... (that's a coffee bean for you non-Peet's-goers) while I catch up on current events... or practice. I like fiddling with my Nikon, my Mac, and other gadgets tho I leave the electricity alone. ; )
I'm an admirer of animals, live with a few, and believe they have much to teach their human companions. If you have a similar philosophy, as well as being liberally minded, health minded, down to earth, are kind, have nothing to prove (read: unpretentious), we may have something to talk about.
And then there's BOOKS! I love books. Are you familiar with "Shop Class As Soulcraft," by Matthew B. Crawford? Great little read. KQED's Michael Krasny interviewed him a number of months ago on Forum. 'Twas great. Also just finished "Hiding in the Spotlight," by Greg Dawson. This true story is about his mother, a child prodigy (pianist) and her sister, (also a child prodigy-pianist) and their ordeal of survival in Russia, 1941-1946. I *highly* recommend this!
Value goodness in people... empathy and compassion. Sometimes all we need is that kind smile... costs nothing, is worth everything.
And yet... the human condition being what it IS... I still try to practice patience with the little annoyances that pop up. You know the kind... I'm probably one of 'em to someone else, too. And so it goes... and still the sun comes up, the clouds breeze by, and the moon wears that giddy smile. Have you seen it, that smile?
I often listen to public radio tho i DO enjoy a bit of jazz (Rippingtons, Richard Elliot, David Sanborn, Randy Crawford, Dan Siegel...), pop, alternative (Goo Goo Dolls, Vertical Horizon, Daughtry, Coldplay, The Fray, Maroon 5, U2...) 80's & 90's rock... as well as classical and opera. My favorite composer? Hands down: Bach.
My goals (some days I attain them, some days... well, I TRY to attain them) are to live well, be kind, tread lightly, try my best, and add a sprinkling of goodness to the world thru music and my time with animals. I love the Dalai Lama's quote: "Be kind whenever possible; It is always possible."
What would I do on a first date? Keep it simple. And add some fun, some humor, and maybe a little embarrassment... like when one goes bowling for the first time in 20 years and not only misses all the pins, the ball ends up in the next lane over... or when one goes for a leisurely stroll on the beach and gets drenched by that surprise wave that wasn't supposed to be that big... or when one goes to an animal park and gets goosed by a Llama... or, well... I think you get the point.
