We have all been asked to do this at one time or another in our lives and that is to try to sum ourselves up in just one word. I have never been able to do that and in the moment, wanting to comply and just do what is being asked of me, always become frustrated with my inability to define myself so easily. The truth is that I am so many things. No one thing truly sets me apart, but rather it is the several little things that make me who I am. I’m a mother, an artist, a student. I am a hard worker, I am loyal, intelligent, sensitive, compassionate, optimistic and passionate. I am funny, witty, easy to talk to and get along with. I am these things and much, much more.
I’m not intending to go down that list and elaborate on each thing I mentioned but at least one of them requires special attention. The rest are self-explanatory. I have been a single mom for over a decade now. My daughter is 13 and the most amazing and special person I have ever met. For all of my attributes, she has a million more. I am in a constant state of gratitude for her… my “little BFF” as I call her.
My interests are extremely broad and diverse. I am a bit of a nerd who is fascinated by psychology, the human mind and people in general. I love to learn new things. If I don’t know the answer to something I find out. I am a problem solver. Some see problems as obstacles or even threats but I choose to look at them as life’s puzzles that after solving, we are better people for it. So while on one hand I am an inquisitive, literature loving, comic book and superhero obsessed dork, I am also somewhat of a fashionista with a fabulous flare :) And then of course there is music. Everyone says music is their life but truly, music is like oxygen for me. I don’t think I do anything in my life without having it on in the background. And speaking of being a problem solver, I absolutely love cryptic lyrics that take me years to figure out the meaning behind. My favorite place to listen is definitely the car because it is in my car, and only my car, where I can sing at the top of my lungs and sound like an angel.
That is me in a nutshell. Now, for some useless trivia about me. I won a national spelling bee championship when I was in fourth grade. The word was “precipitation”. My competitor used one wrong letter but I was paying attention, caught her error and won. I have been to almost all 50 states and travelled to England when I was 21. I was in the 1982 movie adaptation of Annie, playing orphan #329. I still receive royalty checks… no, just kidding :) That would be great though!
