Okay. Please take a deep breath and join me for this mini-mental breakdown.
They are one of the most dangerous yet enlightening out of all of human inventions. They let us see ourselves as we are on the surface. And really, that's all we seem to be asking for, is just for someone to skim the surface. I've seen women on here say that they are looking for a deep meaningful relationship with that special someone and then they have a picture of themselves up on here half naked, and nothing written about themselves, or their hopes, dreams, and aspirations.
For ****'s sake at least share your favorite color!
This site, as any social media, is a mirror; a reflection of what we are as a people. From what I can tell, all anyone seems to use this site for is to openly window shop, flaunt themselves so that their ego is nice and satisfied with hundreds of views, or as an easy way to get laid. I mean, how many messages do you send/receive that are just telling you that someone thinks you're 'hot/sexy/fine' and that's it?
There's even a Meet Me section where all you do is click through pictures of people and judge them based on their appearance. I mean, this is actually encouraged. It's sad.
This site seems to cut out the middle man. No longer do you have to worry about actually getting to know someone, or spending time with them. Just a simple gander at their picture and shoot them a message telling them they want to hook up.
What the hell happened to the relationship?! What happened to love being about getting to know someone and finding your best friend?
Is there any emotion left in the idea of a relationship, or has this all become a thing of physicality, simply insert Peg A into Slot B and call it a day? Doesn't anybody want anything more than that?!
And really, it's not your fault... This is all ingrained into us. Sex sells. It's all that matters. Recently I was at the mall, and was dragged into some Abercrombie and Fitch/Hollister/Naked-Man-Bag store aimed at children, and was amazed to see posters of young pre-pubescent girls girls modeling shirts that were cut to a deep v-neck before these girls even have any breasts to show off. See? Conditioning.
I don't like the world this mirror is showing me. Not at all.
Okay. Exhale. I'm done.
Well, I'd prefer to do something that under most circumstances would not be considered a date. Like frolicking through the woods. Somthing where talking is encouraged, and is actually what drives the experience. I could never understand the whole going out to a movie thing on a first date; in the end you don't get to know the other person any better but you both walk away with a better understanding of Seth Rogan.
