I was tired of sites requiring paid memberships to "talk to people" online. I mentioned this to a friend and he told me about POF. I signed on May 12 and had my first date with DJ on my birthday (May 13th). We seemed to have chemistry that very first night, unlike any matches before on Match.com, Yahoo Personals, EHarmony, etc. I had been single since 1996 and he had been single since 1979; we had both given up on meeting a "soulmate" and figured perhaps our PERFECT5 MATCH were merely figments of our imagination; nobody could meet the requirements. Our chemistry was electric and we both were concerned about moving too fast and scaring the other away. (We did not reveal how we were sizzling on the inside to each other for many months.) I was beginning to feel like I was in a "one sided love affair", until around Christmas time, when he playfully said " I wonder what you would do if I told you I loved you". I cherished this statement and wondered if I should return the compliment; but decided against it. Around New Year, we were saying how much we hated the dating game and the endless number of dates, and I revealed that if the right person asked, I might consider marriage. He said that after 30 years he would also consider marriage. (We had both been avoiding it like the plague for years.) Around April Fool's Day; I had tried to play a trick on my boss and tell her I was finally getting married and going to move to Florida. (I had confided in her that this ONE PARTICULAR GUY was really different from all those other dates. I told DJ about the trick I pulled on my boss and we laughed, but he squeezed my hand tightly when I told him. A couple weeks later, I came home to find flowers, dinner and a beautiful card...which was followed by an official proposal. We got married on the 4th of July at Heritage Springs, the Assisted Living Community, where I work, so all my elderly residents could attend. (They normally only have memorial services there as one by one they pass away.) I wanted to give them a joyous occaision to attend. It was beautiful.
