About Me
“When I say, "I love you," it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you. And I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman.”
-Joss Whedon
Sigh, rewriting my profile yet again:
So, how do I describe myself? There is no way I can possibly expose every person that comes across my profile to every aspect of my personality, and the only thing that you will see is only a sliver of what I am. The only question is, does this aspect of my personality appeal to you? Granted, you will take one look at this profile and either be intrigued or dismiss it out of hand, judging me based on this very limited description. But alas, a part doesn't define the whole, and for this, I ask that you remember that there is more to everyone than what they have online.
For example, you cannot see online how I blush when I get complimented, or I am easily excited by random things. You cannot have an intellectual conversation with my profile, or determine how passionate I am about my work.
You will never see the twinkle in my eye through the screen, or hear my laugh echo as I tease you about something silly. I can't share with you my odd sense of humour, based mostly on wit, over the top acting and sarcasm through an msn chat either.
Likewise, I can never see how much of a gentleman you are, and how charming you can be, only through your profile. I can't tell if you're confident, or nervous or shy, only from an email, or really enjoy your company if we're sitting only chatting online.
Ah yes, the internet leaves much to be desired.
We can never share those quiet, kind of awkward silences where we look at our drinks, smile in polite silence, only to quickly look up, make brief eye contact until we get embarrassed and return to our drinks; if we never meet.
These are things we can only experience, if we break down the barriers before us made of wires and motherboards and turn the virtual into reality. Dare you take that chance?
