About Me
I can be summed up as a playful geek and animal lover with a burning desire to be more outdoorsy coupled with a never-ending thirst for knowledge.
I am as enamored with logical things as I am creative things. Sometimes nothing can engage me as much as a tricky troubleshooting issue on a computer, but on the same level, there are times when I can be just as focused on creating a drawing or painting. I think logic and creativity don't have to be mutually exclusive and are best used simultaneously.
Music is near and dear to my heart. I have always enjoyed heavy bass and that seems to have blossomed into my love of electronica. That's not where it ends, though -- I am eclectic with my music as I am my books and interests. I enjoy anything from classical and opera to folk and rock and all of the little good bits in between.
I find the world and what is in it fascinating. The natural world is beautiful to me. I love animals and I couldn't imagine the world or my life without them -- I am an animal welfarist. I am interested in food politics and enjoy going to restaurants that serve locally grown and/or organic food and am ethically conscious and tend to avoid meat. I currently am caregiver to a beautiful (and very friendly!) snake and an indoor garden increasing in size. Equally so, I love to spend time away from the city, maybe just soaking up the sun or enjoying the natural architecture of nature. I recently completed a Wilderness Skills Intensive course and intend to keep updating my primitive survival and archery skills and will be attending an advanced course in September. I am especially fascinated by the art of leather and fur braintanning and am actively trying to learn more. I'd love to find some more time to create a group for those interested in survival/primitive skills to get together, practice and teach one another.
I do love to read, especially non-fiction. I can be found reading textbooks and manuals for fun. However, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy a good story -- far from it! I especially enjoy dystopian fiction, or just reading something on the Internet. If I'm not reading, I often enjoy playing a console or computer game, especially real time strategy games or simulations. I love retro games and I miss the DOS era!
I am a realist with a compassionate twist. I'm down-to-earth, playful, quirky, inquisitive and curious. I can be very maternal in many ways -- that's not to say that necessarily involves children, however. Sometimes I'm serious, focused and driven. Other times, I can be a big kid and just be goofy and silly. I'm also a bit of a tomboy. I am introverted, but that doesn't mean I shy away from conversation. I enjoy intelligent conversation -- even a good rousing debate at times. I am opinionated but I do try to reserve judgment on others. I find there can be much to be learned and gained from understanding rather than pointing fingers. I am also politically aware on many issues and have the occasional activist streak, especially when it involves animals.
In others, I tend to endear myself towards those who are honest and straightforward...with a bit of tact! Honest and direct communication is a valuable skill that many of us do not make enough effort to foster. I enjoy seeing where life will take me and I try not to let fear or uncertainty stop me from new experiences and I desire the same in those close to me. I really admire people who have the internal strength to challenge their world views and depart from their places of comfort to adapt to new information and, in turn, challenge me to do so as well. I firmly believe that you should never stop learning and growing as a person, whether you're a child or an elder. Life always has lessons to teach and I value people who try their best to learn from them.
I value intelligence quite strongly, but that means a lot of things to me. Emotional intelligence is oft ignored in favour of sheer analytical intelligence and I believe we do ourselves a collective disservice by focusing on that. A balance between the two is healthy and something I strive for. I love geeks -- they're often passionate and curious, as well as sharing much of the same interests that I have. If we can talk and share and keep conversation flowing, that's often the key to the rest. Passion and the ability to cut loose and have some fun, as well as the qualities I've talked about above are all things I desire in both my mates and my friends.
I am currently in a polyamorous relationship. We are both open to meeting and creating relationships with other people. However, my partner is not involved in the other relationships that I may develop. I'm not wanting for anything specific, considering I am content in my current relationship and am a bit strapped for spare time with all of my other commitments. That said, I like meeting new people and am open to the possibility of more. First Date
I think when first meeting someone that keeping it casual is a good way to get an idea if a first date is where you want to go with things. A meet at a café or coffee house is always a mainstay, but basically any public and casual atmosphere is a good first meet. Generally I prefer to avoid noisier places like movies and bars on the first meet - you need to be able to have that time to talk!
