About Me
I'm most comfortable in casual clothes- jeans and such, but do enjoy dressing up for a night out when the occasion calls for it. Going out to a concert or play can be a great time.
I read Rick Warren's book The Purpose Driven Life, and found that my 'purpose' in life so to speak has always been to be as my friends phrase it, a 'blessing' to others. I always try to do for others, to make others smile, if there was one word to describe me I think that word would be 'thoughtful'.
Overall, I feel I am a very good person, honest, dependable, a good friend to others, I feel I was a good wife and mother to my children, I smile a lot, I appreciate the small things in life- one simple beautiful flower, a pretty shade of a color, an unusual rock or seashell, the luxurious taste of coconut creme pie;
My tastes in music vary from the golden oldies of the Beach Boys and Letterman and Four Seasons to the current country of the Oak Ridge Boys and George Strait. Saw the latter two in concert and both were unforgettable.
I'm a former high school math teacher. I use my teaching abilities now to volunteer to teach Driver Safety classes for AARP, mainly because they are so inexpensive for the seniors who live on such limited incomes. It gives me a lot of satisfaction to give back something to the community. I also crochet 'prayer shawls' for a local group that gives them out to ladies undergoing chemo. My mom passed away from breast cancer a year ago and it makes me feel closer to my mom to help someone else suffering from this terrible disease.
Looking for companionship for: movies (either at home with popcorn or out at the theater), dining out (I'd rather investigate the small hometown type diners than big fancy expensive restaurants), just the simple things in life; such as ......
a concert, flea market, or auction.Things need NOT be expensive as I find it fun to sit on the beach or walk along the sand in my barefeet and feed the seagulls and collect shells or rocks. Even sitting at a public site and 'people watching' can be interesting, or even trying to fly a kite again!
I lead a quiet life, but it would just be more fulfilling to be able to share things with a special someone, to have a friend to investigate new places with. If your object is to find a 'friend with benefits' please look elsewhere'. Two people need to become an actual monogamous couple before venturing into the intimate side I believe and that takes time, not just a first date or two.
I am a conservative type who pays my bills before spending money on luxuries. I'm not impressed by money, fancy cars, or big spenders. What does impress me is someone who is devoted to God and family. I'm also impressed by someone who does not let themselves be taken advantage of or imposed upon. Sometimes it is all right to say "no" even if it is to one's own children (not all the time of course, but if the situation warrants). I raised my children to be able to leave the nest and become independent adults.
I attend church weekly. However I am NOT some Bible thumper who tries to force my opinions or practices on someone else. For years I did not go to church or do anything at all in the religious sense. What you do is totally between you and God. I would however like to have a relationship with another Christian as I do enjoy attending church functions as a couple.
My kids are all grown, the youngest is a junior in college. My family is very important to me, even though they are spread out a bit in distance. Just two grandkids as of now. I don't get to see them as often as I'd like.

First Date
I would like to meet someone for coffee, breakfast or lunch first. I think chemistry is important, and both people should know after the first meeting if they wish to go out again. Even though two people can each be extremely nice and on paper it may look like a great match, sometimes things just don't 'click'. There is no point in prolonging an uncomfortable situation if one of the people knows it is an immediate "no".
