Oh dear gods, I hate writing stuff like this.
Well good, that prolly scared at least half of you away, didn't it?
Still reading? I guess I have to say something now, instead of just babbling. I feel like an idiot at an interview.
OK, so here we go. I'm a PhD student in Brisbane, or BrisVegas or Brisneyland as I've heard it called by any number of locals. I'm not a local. I tend to feel self-concious at times when I open my mouth, because it makes it really, really obvious to anyone bother to listen that I'm from North America. I'm a Californian.
Let's make it clear right now that I can't stand George W Bush or the current "leadership" of the USA. It's because of this that I feel hesitant to make it obvious that I'm Californian, but what I'm a suppose to do?
I love music. It isn't just something that can be fun at times. If I don't listen to music for a few days, I feel like something's just plain missing. I love knowing how things work, to the point that I absorb way, way, way too much useless knowledge. Just to name a few, Dave Matthews Band, AeroSmith, Republica, and Moby are all on my list of "things I listen to a lot." But I've got well over 200 CDs (most of which now occupy my iPod), so it's hard to really give a good idea. For example, I love swing jazz, but that isn't represented in the list above, now, is it?
I love wandering the city and finding places and things I've not seen before. I love cooking and baking, particularly if it involves chocolate. I read a good bit.
How do I make myself sound interesting in here?
Prolly not by asking that question...
I'm also a SCUBA diver, thanks to the work I do for my degree. I'd never even considered doing it until a few years ago, but I love it.
I'm very honest, and very up-front with my opinions. That seemed worth mentioning.
Also, I like this icon, so I just have to include it. It's fun.
Anyway, what can I say about who I'd like to meet? Well, first, to clarify, it won't let me put in multiple types of relationship options. So, if you're still reading after all that stuff up above, I'm happy to consider long term or short term relationships (just see how it goes, you know?) or even friends with benefits it someone is leaning that way. Ultimately, I'd LIKE a stable relationship, but life is something to take as it comes to you, so I'm not going to be too particular about it at this point.
The kind of woman I'd like to meet:
Someone who:
Likes to talk. A lot. About completely random stuff for hours and hours and hours. Is conversant.
REALLY enjoys music. Can talk about what she likes about the musicians she’s
into.
Has energy. Enjoys life. Has a drive to do something. It doesn’t have to be
something truly amazing, but do to something she enjoys in her life.
Wants to get out of bed in the morning and go out and do something with the day.
Enjoys movies of a lot of types. Is a fan of the Princess Bride (if you don’t know what this is, there may be no helping you).
Reads. A lot. Fiction and non-fiction. Likes to read.
Loves travelling. Near and far, domestic and international. Loves talking about different places to go and what you can see in all the amazing parts of the world out there.
Takes an interest in the world around her. This doesn’t mean you have to
obsessively follow all the news everywhere, but I’d like to meet someone who does care about what’s going on.
Is confident in herself, and proud of who she is, with few to no apologies.
Speaks her mind without hesitation.
About what she wants, both emotionally,
physically, and mentally.
Has an opinion.
Enjoys good food. It’s NOT “just a meal” (well, sometimes it is, but I think you get my meaning).
Reads this list and realizes (without being told) I don’t expect her to conform to ALL of it all at once, but knows that these are the kind of things I want in a girlfriend.

First Date
A first date? That sounds so formal, especially for a web-based internet service? I think really, more than anything else, I'd want to just meet in a public place, like the city or down on the coast and do something FUN together.
For example, if the woman I was meeting enjoyed the water a lot (and believe me, I hope who ever I do meet does), we could meet somewhere like Broadbeach down on the Gold Coast (so much less crowded and touristy than Surfer's) and go to the beach and/or go rollerblading together and chat. If things go well after that, that's wonderful.
I'm open to suggestions, by the way.
