"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not , when I came to die , discover that I had not lived. "-Henry David Thoreau.
Ever felt ya should have lived in the 1830s or what it was like to live as they did ? Do ya feel connected with gals like Runnin Moon, Pocahontas, Clay Basket or Sacajawea ? Maybe had a crush on Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, Grizzly Adams or Jeremiah Johnson ? Much of the time I live a primitive way of life that's not for every one, it may be a simple way of life but very real. I do not live outdoors all of the time. I'm looking for a gal that believes in the old ways or the ways of the American Indian.
Shame the old Calif I grew up in huntin & fishin is gone to hell, they're closin off parts of the back country and the scum are going to the hills to paint crap on signs, trees and rocks leaving litter and trash all over. Now CA wants to take our guns, and support illegal aliens at our expense. So I'm looking to move, I'm open to many of the states with the freedoms that are no longer in the former great state of CA, and live in a tipi, A-frame or Log cabin. I will consider staying in CA around the Yosemite area. Hell since I'm the first of my family born in the USA since the early 1700's maybe I'll move up to Canada since everyone but my ma and my kids are there.
I worked on horse & cattle ranches for 18 years and was a PRCA Bull rider for 7 years. Then since 1992 I've been running my school "Lone Wolf Wilderness Skills" (closed the website long ago) full time in CA and for a few years in NE Washington state. I'm also very into the old American Indian way of life. I like to live off what I raise, grow, catch or hunt. I like to be self reliant. I don't like crowds except an occasional pow wow, gun show. But Mountain Man rendezvous or primitive pre-1843 Mountain Man encampments are a different story, and while I'm there having fun I make extra cash by selling or trading knives and leather stuff I make.
I don't like sports on TV or otherwise, my world doesn't revolve around beer and BBQ's for the superbowl or the likes. I'm honest, kind, loyal, trust worthy, have a great sense of humor as well as a darn good cook. Love all animals but my favorite are horses and dogs. I now only have 2 dogs, My blind dog Sadie 13 yrs went to sleep 6-3-2013 from cancer. My beautiful blue nose Wa-Sha 5 3/4yrs(in photo with me kneeling) took her last breath in my arms @ 5;04 am 9-1-2012, she died of liver failure caused by the pills she had to take for her seizures. Wa-Sha showed me just how fragile life really is, and how fast our lives can change. Rambo 2 1/2 yrs was killed by a mountain lion memorial day weekend of 2006. And Xena 10yrs the first of this bloodline is now gone as well, she went to sleep April 29 2007 do to cancer, they are always on my mind and forever in my heart. They're pit bulls so if your only as smart as the media tells you to be about these dogs we won't get along.
I'm spiritual and nature's my church, I tend to lean more to the American Indian beliefs. Don't think after reading this that I'll only live in a lean-to shelter or a Tipi. I do know how to wipe my feet or take off my moc's and watch movies or the history channel. I am for real and what I do is for real. So be serious about what you want and what your doing. Girlie girls or gal's looking for wanna-be Mountain Men or feels that because a guy lives in the hills makes him a mountain man would be best to find some one else. I am planing a month long horse ride on some of the old routes that Jedediah Smith took back in the late 1820's with all pre-1840 tack, gear, weapons and clothing.

The Dog and the Wolf
Discouraged after an unsuccessful day of hunting, a hungry Wolf came on a well-fed Mastiff. He could see the Dog was having a better time of it than he was an he inquired what the Dog had to do to stay so well-fed. "Very easy, guard the house, show fondness to the master, be submissive to the rest of the family and you are well fed and warmly lodged.
The Wolf thought this over carefully. He risked his own life almost daily, had to stay out in the worst of weather, and was never assured of his meals. He thought he would try another way of living.
As they were going along together the Wolf saw a place around the neck where the hair had been worn thin. He asked what this was and the Dog said it was nothing, "just the place where my collar and chain rub." The Wolf stopped short. "Chain?" he asked. "You mean you are not free to go when and where you choose?" "No," said the Dog, "but what does that mean?" "Everything," answered the Wolf as he trotted off. "Everything"
"Be sure you're right, then go ahead." - Davy Crockett
"Sometimes on the way to our dreams, we get lost, and find an even better one."-Cree Dancer
"The wilderness should now no longer be considered as a playground for vandals, or a rich treasure trove to be ruthlessly exploited for the personal gain of the few," to be grabbed off by whoever happens to get there first. Man should enter the woods with the awe of one who steps within the portals of some vast and ancient edifice of wondrous architecture."-Archie Grey Owl
"Many a child journeys this high to be different, planning to get from the mountain something their natures couldn't get'em down below, that comes to nothing. Ya can't cheat the mountain pilgrim the mountain got its own way" - Bear Claw Chris Lapp
Conversation Starters (i.e. what you'd like to do on a first date...)
Ya already know by now I ain't a sushi, Starbucks or a walk on the beach kinda guy. I know its hard to find the type of gal that I'm looking for. So thats why I'm willing to move outa this state or at least this area. So I don't care what state you're in if ya think we've got a shot let me know. I prefer that after a few emails(4-5) that we talk not text on the phone, I've been caught up in the endless email deal one too many times, since I type with 1 hunt & peck finger it take me forever to type lol. I'm also not interested in anyone who drinks on a regular basis or druggies.
I need a gal that either already can or wants to learn to ride horses, as they are important to this life style, one that can sew, not afraid to cook and eat wild game. I get email telling me how they would love to live this way " but I just can't", my answer to that is "The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullsh*t story you keep telling yourself as to why you can't achieve it".
I'm a living historian and a experimental historian. I get asked what the difference of being that or a re-enactor. Re-Enacting is recreating a specific historical event as closely as possible, generally at or near the site of the original event. Living history is more general, recreating living and life for a specific period of time without being tied to any specific event, a living historian, however, is not satisfied with merely the dry facts, dates and narratives available from history books, diaries and journals and the artifacts seen on display in museums. The living historian wants to experience life as it was during the time of interest. In other words do it for real not for a show.
