I might as well start with hobbies. I am definitely a gamer, but my favorite kind of game is tabletop/D&D type stuff, because it allows me to be someone completely unique, with abilities, personality quirks, and achievements not only all his/her own, but also completely unpredictable as the campaign progresses. It's like a combination of theater acting, musical jamming, and stand-up comedy. Nothing else really makes me feel as creatively stimulated as that kind of thing.
I like watching just about everything on BBC America, news included (it's the only genuinely unbiased television news program). Science Channel is fun, and I love a good HBO epic. I also love watching the Travel Channel when Anthony Bourdain is on, simply because it's nice to see just how beautiful the world can be, along with all its food and culture. I'd like to learn to cook, but I have an intense sensitivity to heat, so I'm pretty much relegated to permanent prep duty, which I excel at by the way (I can slice garlic so it melts in the pan, and I'm always interested in learning new techniques). I normally eat pretty unhealthy food, so a cooking partner to keep me eating healthy food would be great.
My goal in life is basically to make others happy. I've been through a lot of horrible things, mostly caused by my own neurological oddities, and I care very much about making sure that no one ever experiences anything remotely similar to that on their own. I like to tutor people in school, I enjoy assisting others in their pursuits when they need help, and I always try to be honest and good at keeping a secret. I don't really know what I want to do for a career, because my passion for helping others isn't very good for getting paid. An ideal situation would be helping my partner with her own career if she appreciated what I had to offer. That and writing.
If I had to describe myself in three words, I'd say that I am gentle, intelligent, and good-humored. I love to laugh, hug, and partake in witty banter when the people around me are friendly and can take a bit of loving sarcasm. What makes me unique is that I am willing to change the direction of a conversation fully if someone needs to talk shop about their feelings. I can stop laughing at a joke, pay attention, and completely lose myself in the work I do to help that person with their problems.
Music is one of those things that I love to indulge in when I have an opportunity, but rarely take the time to actually explore. I like some Radiohead, a bit of Massive Attack, but mostly I am a true lover of movie soundtracks. I also am recently listening to Dr. Who Dat?, Flying Lotus, and Nujabes, as well as finally discovering Mos Def, Pharaoh Monch, and all the classics of hip-hop. I love a good beat with a lot of musical depth to it, and I love a simple and catchy but still classy beat just as much (i.e. Mathematics). What matters to me about music is that I want to hear songs that smack me in the face with their quality. When Baba O'Riley comes on the radio, I feel like there is a just deity I should be thanking. When I get to chill out to a song like MmmHmm and let the soft and gentle guitar riffs drip over my aural landscape, I feel like I'm in another world with no pain and everything to gain.
I hope to meet someone who is an absolute delight to talk to, and who delights in talking to me. If you think I sound boring, don't bother. If I sound like a guy you'd like to know, then have at it and talk to me. I might not have noticed you before you noticed me, but that doesn't mean I won't pay attention.
Conversation Starters (i.e. what you'd like to do on a first date...)
No idea. If I went on more dates, I might have some ideas, but I won't cook up something unrealistic or overly romantic just to make people fawn more.
