First dates are to get to know one another, so activities that don't allow you to talk to one another sort of defeat the purpose. Taking about three hours to eat (without necessarily eating anything), followed by a long walk hand-in-hand in a park, on a beach, or even down a tree-lined street in a small town, would give almost exclusive purpose to getting to know one another better. At some point during the stroll, the gallant knight might take the lady's hand to his lips--provided the knight and the lady aren't laughing so hard they can't breathe! Sorry, ladies, quiet is nice, but life without laughter from good, CLEAN humor is hardly life at all. At the end of the time together, provided we both enjoy ourselves, a brief expression of our appreciation of the time we spent together may well be appropriate.
