About Me
I suppose I'm a pretty typical academic - liberal/green, blue jeans & western shirts; aspiring polymath; wildly varying time demands. I enjoy teaching & performing research in the computational sciences. Now that I've job security & no longer need be a migrant worker, I want to start & support a family. Where I live, though, isn't optimal for me - I miss & crave mountains, especially skiing, hiking & biking on them.
Most of my free time now goes to playing & listening to music(and driving to play/listen-to music). I play in a few music groups/bands. (To varying degrees, I play on some small-distribution CDs) I enjoy "Rise Up Singing" folk-music circles. I'm not currently playing classical. My forte is improvising accompaniments on mandolin & violin in the folk/blues/rock/Cajun/country/bluegrass/swing genres.(I do OK w. admittedly modest musical skills)
I maintain good physical conditioning so I can ski the steeps all day (and survive to ski another day). Skiing in fresh powder through nicely spaced trees is heavenly. I'm OK at racket sports, especially table-tennis. I can golf - but don't.
A science fiction (sci-fi) fan, I consume hard science fiction in all media as time permits.
Personality: type-B, ENFP MBTI, loving, gentle, passionate & playful, cooperative, collaborative, empathetic, curious, honest, logical, agnostic, articulate & mannered, reliable, health-conscious, monogamous, cluttered & chaotic, & a peace-maker.
I'm afraid I'm much happier playing in snow than on a hot beach. I don't hunt, fish, or do powered off-roading.
I'm almost vegetarian. (I'm garlic intollerant, though) - Seafood, Asian & New Mex. cuisines are faves.
I appreciate & enjoy all the arts - cinema, painting, sculpture, dance, music, architecture, literature. (design: I heart surrealism, art deco/nuveau, mission, SWestern)
I do watch (tme-shifted) TV, mostly the sci-fi and educational shows along with a few sitcoms (current fave "The Big Bang Theory": almost too funny).

I enjoy driving & I drive a high mpg sporty diesel wagon w. MT.
I've been told I could charge for my head/neck massages.
I'm essentially looking for a life-partner, someone interesting enough for a lifetime, and someone who inspires me to be the best person I can be.

First Date
A Borders-type bookstore can serve splendidly as a good first date venue. It has music, video, and various book sections that provide a cornucopia of conversation starters that can help first daters share their interests & experiences, as well as their hopes & values. Casual food & drink is available there as well.
