Me..... Nice guy...... regular guy..... happy guy.... fun guy..... funny guy.... likes to laugh.... likes to be spontaneous.... good conversationalist.... interesting life stories and beliefs... good manners... good at being chivalrous..... I get great pleasure in treating a woman well.... I love to please.
I just returned to the west after a short stint in DC, and I'm not even sure if I will end up living here.... all depends on if I get a job here. In the meantime, I know I am here at least through Dec, and there is life to enjoy, and I most enjoy it while spending time with a woman. I am emotionally stable and financially able to offer up a fine time on the town, on the trail, or on the road (always up for a get-away). Experienced in age, youthful in spirit (adventurous, spontaneous, out to shows and nightclubs a fair bit, etc.).
I have four things I absolutely love to do. First is to travel. I've traveled throughout US and the world (I've been to 20+ countries in the last ten years), so I can find social and conversational connection with just about anyone who is adventurous. My love of seeing different people, cultures and landscapes is why I've recently changed my career focus to an international context. If I don't stay in Portland or the SF BAy Area, it will be because I got a gig overseas.
Second love is being outdoors. I like hiking, biking, swimming, camping (particularly backcountry - was a wilderness guide for ten years), sailing, scuba diving, kayaking, rafting, climbing, skiing, and so on. Yoga too, but that isn't all about the outdoors, just that it reminds me of flowing in the outdoors, and the value of recreation (re-creating body, mind and spirit). Any time in nature suits me fine. I also enjoy all a city has to offer (shows, nigh clubs, restaurants, people watching, etc.). I have an open-minded, curious approach to life and the world, and live an active and adventuresome lifestyle.
Next is music..... Music is a big part of my life (rock, Americana, bluegrass, folk, RandB, blues, jazz are my regulars - I was a DJ at a college radio station for 4 years). Live music best, dancing to music. The Neil Young song "From Hank to Hendrix" speaks to the diversity of my musical tastes. I'm learning to pay the mandolin.
Finally, #4... making a difference. I am an activist, an agent of change. Sustainability is my focus: people and planet, communities and economies. This ranges from climate change resilience and sustainable community development to impact investing and social enterprises to women's empowerment and social justice. I enjoy photography, and telling stories, particularly communicating to affect change, is a strong interest of mine. I like critical thinking and exploring ideas with people. I spent 30 years in environmental conservation (wildlife focused) and education work, including 17 years as executive director for two NGOs (one of which I co-founded). I just stepped down as the executive director of a third - a small international NGO in D.C.
A day is full for me if I learn something, laugh a bunch, remember to find cause to cherish life, be thankful for this grand adventure, and be part of what provides others the same. I like to give as much as receive. I have a strong commitment to taking care of where I live, and I think service to a greater good is the noblest of endeavors.
Finally, a few of my favorite quotes: Life is too important to be taken seriously. Attitude: the difference between an ordeal and an adventure. Problems are only opportunities in working clothes. I'm not perfect, but parts of me are incredible. Now is a good time.
Looking to enjoy time with a woman who is confident and very comfortable in her body and her spirit. I love the feel of an evening out with a woman, good food and drink, then maybe some music that makes us move, walking by the river, whatever seems fun and outgoing.
If who I am is interest to you, I look forward to hearing from you.
