About Me
Hello,
I'm Rob, I work in a woodshop where I design and build custom contemporary furniture, mostly from reclaimed barn timber. It doesn't look country or cottagey though, banish that image. Eventually I will run my own studio/workshop designing and building modern furniture and objects from reclaimed wood and other vintage industrial.
I am a well balanced individual, leaning toward the creative. I am playful, intelligent, and affectionate, and am overjoyed when these are reciprocated. My parole officer Mr Mccannon says I would make a fine husband. That's just a joke. He would never say that. Sharing new ideas about social/political issues and the world we live in, philosophy, history and language can get me fired up pretty quickly. As well as those topics, the shapes of chairs, other people's 'sub-woofers', ubiquitous billboards, the science of wood, and the prevalence of ugg boots, are areas I also seem to be passionate about.
I spend my free time drawing and writing, working at the shop with a couple of friends on weekends doing picture framing and other projects, talking about going to yoga, biking around town very fast pretending i'm a jet on a mission to save your life, or just lying on my attractive but firm and slightly scratchy couch reading. I have also been known to goof around in local pubs from time to time. I recently bought a nice acoustic guitar and have been teaching myself to play in a relaxed sort of way. I love film and books and music very much, food and nice wine, and make time for all. I canoe-trip in the North when I can. I have a once-a-year sort of affinity with horseshoe pits. I am very manly and have a deep voice.
I am hoping to meet a creative, intelligent and good-natured person. When I say creative I don't mean that you have to be a painter or a dope free-styler, I mean that I like people with an abstract sort of outlook or humour, or at least the ability to go there. A young woman who is a bit unconventional, playful, wise, open-minded, affectionate and relaxed (or posesses any combination of two of these qualities) is who I would eventually like to meet and subsequently smooch.
Now here is the "what I like" as opposed to the "what I'm like" (Hornby):
Books/Authors:****ns, It won't let me write Charles ****ns! Anyway, rhymes with Charles Chickens. Asimov, Orwell, Russo, Rand, Twain, Steinbeck, Klosterman, Bryson. Jonathon Livingston Seagull was one of the first books that I really liked (aside from Richard Scary books and the one kids book with the tissue-paper caterpillar illustrations). We read Crabbe by William Bell in high school and I ended up scooping the copy and still have it. I just finished The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. Yeesh, Heavy stuff, great though. There are a thousand books to read, at least. I'm always reading new authors and never really nail down 'What I like'. I like what has some depth of character, good language and not too much shmaltz. A little shmaltz is okay. Right now I'm reading Why I Am Not A Christian by Bertrand Russell as well as The Mosquito Coast by Paul Theroux, and enjoying both. How about you?
Music: LCD sound system, Skip James, Cat Power, Debussy, John Lee Hooker, Led Zeppelin, The Pharcyde, Big Business, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Dandy Warhols, High on Fire, BSS, Gomez, Wilco, QOTSA, Sarah Harmer, Ray Charles, Travis, The Smalls, Blind Willie Mctell, Nick Drake, Stephan Grappelli, Tom Waits, Sigur Ros, Sarah Harmer, wolf parade, Phillip Glass, Gomez.

First Date
Something relaxed and comfortable to start. I like the idea of a drink and a stroll, maybe dinner, but I'm up for anything from bowling to burglary. Museum, garage sale, Dog-show, pony-show, dog and pony show, puppet-show, peep-show.
