I am Harvey.
I consider myself to be adventurous, spontaneous, deep, passionate and very open-minded. I also admire these qualities in other people. I respect people who think for themselves and don't blindly conform to norms and social conventions. Nothing annoys me more than herd-mentality and unquestioning obedience.
I think that the concepts of 'success' and 'happiness' that are rammed down our throats from cradle to grave are bullsh*t and that these can only ever be defined on our own terms. I have no interest in the rat race or accumulating all of the useless sh*t that advertising tells us we need. Keeping up with the Jones' is far from one of my priorities. Having to sell forty hours of my life every week just to scrape by angers me. Especially because spending eight hours of my day doing menial tasks ultimately leaves me too drained and exhausted afterwards to be doing the things I'd really like to be doing. If money was no object, I'd be travelling the world, having adventures, meeting unique and interesting people and writing about it all. My head is firmly and proudly in the clouds.
The way that 'civilisation' is heading saddens me and I don't see much hope for the future if things carry on at this rate. It annoys me that the majority of the population can't pull themselves away from the television screen long enough to realise what's really going on in the world and most don't even care to begin with. It also annoys me that the mass media feeds us so much propaganda, lies and half-truths and people soak it up without question like a sponge. I find it frustrating that modern society has decayed to such an extent that people find it necessary to distract themselves with various forms of mindless escapism 24/7 in a desperate attempt to fill the inner void that inevitably entails from living in a consumeristic and superficial capitalist society. A great person once said: "Much of our activity these days is nothing more than a cheap anesthetic to deaden the pain of an empty life". I couldn't agree more.
My worst fear in life is mediocrity. F*ck settling for anything less than extraordinary. Life's too short to waste away on trivial bullsh*t and I'm determined to lead an interesting life and make my mark on this world. I've realised over the years that pretty much anything is achievable providing you believe in yourself and you're willing to get off your a*** and make it happen.
