I've been living out West in Calgary for a little over 8 years now, after moving out with a crew of good friends from New Brunswick in 2006. I travel back and forth as frequently as I can... or whenever work permits. I have house in my home town back East, and an apartment here in Calgary.
My job keeps me out in the oil fields of Northern Alberta & BC for a couple weeks at a time. I get back to Calgary frequently; and occasionally sneak in a quick trip back to New Brunswick. Being away from home so much can be a drag some days, but I really enjoy what I do, and I get to travel all over the Western Canada and work with some crazy and interesting people.
When I'm in the city, I like to check out live music, and hang out with friends for food and drinks at a pub or a BBQ and fire. Some of my favorite spots are the Atlantic Trap & Gill, Dixons, Sam's Bar & Grill, the Below Deck Pub, and the occasional night club excursion to the Roadhouse.
When I manage to get back to New Brunswick, I love just chilling out at my place on the coast; sitting on the deck playing guitar, enjoying sun and the view of the ocean, and the small town laid back atmosphere.
I spend allot of time playing guitar and have a blast jamming with friends, especially at open mic or around a campfire. I have a nice little collection of guitars, but most of them are in Nb now. Note: I'm not allowed to be left alone in music stores... I have a bad habit of leaving with new gear. I used co-host an open mic night down in Kensington which was a ton of fun. But now that I’m often out of town for work, I just try to play at random venues whenever I get a chance. In the future I’d love to dedicate a lot more time to playing live, with a band or something... maybe just illusions of grandeur, but the dream of being a rock star sneaks into my mind every once in a while.
My music tastes are very broad, and although I have a certain respect for it musically, I can't stand twangy country. I love acoustic folk stuff, classic rock, indie rock, 90s alternative, and pretty much any other music. Some of my all time favorite bands are Led Zeppelin, Blind Melon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, Pink Floyd, Alexisonfire, Audioslave, The Mars Volta, City and Colour, and Jimi Hendrix. And I’ve been on a bit of an indie rock kick lately, listening to Mumford & Sons, Lumineers, Florence & The Machine, Walk Off the Earth, and Of Monsters & Men.
Besides music, my other passion is technology. Note: As with music stores, I’m not to be left alone in Future Shop or similar establishment. I’ve always been a huge fan of gadgets and electronics, and made a living as an IT guy since high school up until moving to the energy sector, where it is still a huge part of work and life. And this has definitely made me a self admitted geek/nerd, and of course influenced other interests in gaming and entertainment. I love fantasy and sci-fi, and grew up on Tolkien and Star Wars.
I'm looking for someone who likes to chill out and play or listen to music, but also likes to get dressed up and go out on the town, or take off for the weekend and go camping and have exciting outdoor adventures. I do need to find someone who is OK with my work schedule or lack thereof. I am frequently out of town for two weeks or so at a time, and it’s sometimes hard to balance life and work. If you are independent and self-sufficient, but also want a close connection, a best friend, and support when needed, I’ll be there for you however I can. I’m a faithful and honest guy, and hope for the same, especially after some bad experiences in the past. I want to do lots of traveling around the world in the next few years, and really want someone to share those experiences with. I want to find someone who also pushes me out of my comfort zone and adds spontaneity and a bit of chaos to the mix.
Clarification: "Do you do drugs?" - Yes. To be truthful, I am a bit of a pot head, but because of work & health, I've cut back drastically, along with alcohol as well. I do enjoy the occasional joint now and then with friends and maybe some reality bending mushrooms or acid while at music festivals or camping. I've seen friends blow money and ruin themselves on the more hardcore drugs and really have no desire to do them. One thing I find slightly annoying with POF is the "Must not do drugs" requirements and the frequent anti-drug statements in profiles. I believe on a philosophical level if you haven't tried or experimented with some of the recreational drugs your really missing out on some extremely unique and mind opening experiences. I actually have a hard time trusting some straight edge people, whereas after sharing a joint and swapping a few stories with someone who has an open mind to these activities, I know what their mind set is and there is a connection on another level. Or maybe that is just the inner space cadet talking.... : )
