It’s 6.30am on a beautiful Sunday morning. You and your partner are strolling along the beach, people-watching and chatting. Hand in hand, you laugh as the waves roll in and the water washes over your feet. A dog runs up to you and drops a stick at your feet. You pick the stick up and throw it. Again, you both laugh as the dog runs after it.
After the walk you make your way to your favourite local café. You order your usual breakfast, and sip on a coffee while reading the newspapers. You swap stories while you wait for your breakfast to arrive. It takes a little longer than it should, but it's no big deal - you are both content just chatting and reading.
You talk about plans for your upcoming holidays. Maybe a camping trip, or a semi-planned road trip along the coastline? Maybe you’ll just head to a luxury resort for a few days and soak up the atmosphere. It really doesn’t matter because you both know that whatever you do it will be an adventure and you’ll both make sure it is as much fun as it can possibly be.
Breakfast finished, you head home where you work together to get the domestic things done (yes it is still fun at our ages to squirt the water hose at each other while supposedly washing the car), then you each spend some time doing ‘me’ things – maybe she’s on the internet while you watch your favourite sports team on the TV, maybe it’s the other way around.
Later you prepare your evening meal together. Well, you prepare dinner while she keeps your glass of wine topped up and makes sure there is great music playing in the background. Depending on the mood, it could be 60s, rock, or Jazz, pretty much any type of music except for rap which really just gives you a headache (and she knows that, so would never choose it).
After dinner you remind her that you cooked so she’s on clean up duty, but you stay with her and kind of help out, perhaps stealing the odd kiss while she pretends to be focussed on the chores.
After dinner, you cuddle on the couch and watch a movie together. You both head to bed, smiling to yourself and thinking how lucky you are to have each other. Life is good.
