About Me
Moved to Toronto for work somewhat recently, and looking to meet people and make some new friends in this gigantic mass of steel and concrete I now call home.
Looking for friends and interesting people to meet and talk to. That seems like a good place to start. After that, who knows?
I've been described as a 'little black raincloud of happiness.' I am a giant nerd. I make big plans and ideas that I'll probably never actually accomplish, but the ability to dream them is important. If you can't handle sarcasm, general nerdiness, eating odd food, or having discussions about zombie defence strategies, then you probably won't like me very much.
"Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm." This is my general outlook on life. I tend to bounce around a lot with different ideas, which tend to fail for one reason or another. Most of them involve getting myself out of Southern Ontario. I've not been particularly successful as of yet, but I'll keep coming up with things until one of them actually works. Next big plans include trying to live in Finland for a year before I'm 30.
I think the most important part of a relationship is the ability to talk. Whether it be serious debates, random `this is what I did today`shit, or random theoretical arguments, if you can`t talk to a person, and feel that you`re on the same emotional or intellectual level, then things just aren`t gonna work in the long run.
My musical tastes tend to vary between metal (the best stuff is coming out of Finland these days, just as a personal opinion) electronic, and then a straight jump over to folk music. While I can listen to most music, my personal tastes seem to jump over rap, hiphop, country and pop music almost entirely. What I enjoy listening to usually goes through general phases.

I just completed my archaeology degree. This means that yes I went to school to go dig holes and play in the dirt all day. The world is my sandbox and there's some pretty cool stuff buried there. While I may have to take a 'real' job from time to time, I fully believe that a bad day out digging is still better than a good day I have to wear dress shoes, and it's almost unnatural to come home from work without dirt in my socks and grime under my nails.
I am a nerd in almost every aspect of my life. I enjoy D&D and zombie survival games. Board games/card games such as Munchkin, Settlers of Catan, and Killer Bunnies are also awesome. I also suffer from a love of generally bad B-movies. The more absurd the better. Mystery Science Theater 3000 is awesome as well.
I also participate in a medieval history group, called the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA for short). I get to dress up in medieval clothing, eat, dance, do archery and thrown weapons (knives, axes), and have a wonderful time escaping the real world.
Lately, I've gotten the chance to help with a reproduction iron smelt, and reconstructing Viking glass bead furnaces. Yes I'm a dork, but it means I get to help turn rock into metal, and work with molten glass, and really, that's just awesome.
I am a Christian, but have a strong belief in allowing people to live in the truths that they have chosen to follow for themselves. I enjoy discussion, and learning about people's own personal view of God and the supernatural or unknown.
In terms of style, I tend to wear a lot of black, or slightly unusual pieces. Half the time I wear a lot of straight black and look generally gothy. The other half of the time I can look like I'm a character in a little kids' tv show. I can look normal when I want to, but as a general preference I live in my stripey socks, layers of skirts and pants with multiple metal bits. The other half of the time (three halves, I know...) I'm either out doing field work or on my way to/from doing such. When this is the case I'm usually more or less covered in dirt. Occupational hazard.
I'm one of the few people I know who actually looks forward to winter. You're in Canada, it happens every year. If you've lived here your entire life, you should be used to this by now. I love the cold and the quiet and the calm that sets over the world.

I have no clue. Personally, I like coffee, or walking, or maybe a combination of both. Something neutral, yet pleasant, and can make any awkward pauses in conversation (if/when they shall occur), less like awkward pauses, and more like comfortable periods of silence.
A meal out would be cool too, just don't expect me to pick a place. I travel a LOT for work, and as a consequence, find myself legitimately unable to care about picking an individual restaurant. On the flip side of that, I'm also pretty much always up for trying any new or interesting places you're wanting to try out. Variety is a good thing.
Or if there's something more exciting or active, I'm always open to suggestions.
