About Me
You want to know about me, so here goes:
I'm a pretty positive person who is pretty happy with my life. I'm very lucky and very privileged to live the life I have. My life is pretty simple and structured. On the balance, I want to add to it, instead of wanting to subtract from it.
I like to try to cook different things, as good food is a wonderful, simple pleasure.
Other hobbies include trying out new wines, listening to music, playing video games, watching movies, hanging out with friends, talking about "big ideas", and otherwise loving life in general.
I like reading. I read a lot everyday for my job, but then I like to go and read some more for pleasure. I'm fascinated with learning about the way the world works.
I've started to do a bit of strength training on my own, and want to do more as I gain more flexibility and balance. I've worked most of my life in blue collar professions, so I've never had to worry about my weight. And while I still don't, I'd rather start now when it's easy, than when I'm older and it's harder.
Personality wise I'm a contrarian who likes to moving against the grain. I like to challenge what life gives me, or imagine new possibilities to current situations. So far I feel I've been successful.
My goals are to further my education in my field, and to hopefully retire early. I'm working hard to make both those happen. My job is both excellent and rewarding. I get a chance to talk to lot of people and I learn new things constantly. I deal mainly with Adult Education, which I find fascinating. It doesn't take me out of Calgary, which is nice for what Oil and Gas can demand sometimes from it's employees.
I've worked in the Oil and Gas industry for a number of years. First going out to the field in the summer working Seismic, looking for reserves, and to pay for my schooling. I got a chance to fly in a helicopter, travel all over interior British Columbia, norther Alberta, and parts of Saskatchewan. I was even chased by a bear once! Then I worked in the office as one of the office staff before landing my current job. So, I've had a mix of blue collar and white collar experiences.
I grew up in a small town in Saskatchewan, (please, no jokes), before moving to Calgary for school. I've got a younger sister with a couple of wonderful nephews and a niece, back in Saskatchewan. But I think of myself as a Calgarian--I even do the "hand wave" when people let me into their lane during traffic. We really should bring back the "hand wave" and be nicer to each other when we drive.
I like live music, and a mix of everything. Currently I've been listening to The Roots, Portishead, Mandalay, Jay-Z, Orbital, Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Blue States, and so forth.
I can sometimes be a bit reserved meeting someone for the first time. Usually it's just me checking out a person first, figuring them out a bit. But I'm able to warm up with the right person. ;)
And I can laugh at myself. A sense of humour is important to me. Life would be so sad if we couldn't laugh at ourselves and some of the things we do.
I also help old ladies across the street.
