QUEST FOR VERITY
By birth and looks and fortune
No prince or star nor rich man he
Just one among the masses
At times lost in lifes melee
A human being like countless others
Imperfect in so many things and ways
And like his brothers, sisters near and far
Loves hand has dealt him, at times, unfair
Yet! Hope springs eternal
For it has been said
Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never loved at all
So once, twice, three times or more
Love he is the better for
No heavy horses, armour, shield or sword
But a quest he`s on and thats for sure
And not for any grail
A Princess, by his definition
At journeys end and trail
Her hair may be like silk
And eyes like limpid pools
That would melt shining armour
And turn a knight into a fool
Her lips, ruby red, cupid bow and full
of promises, this could be
But for this no fiery dragon will be slain
Her looks, her bearing, her comeliness
Entice, tempt and hint at treasures
obvious and unseen
But this only illussion and not the substance forseen
For in beauty he holds no trust
More than skin deep search he must
So no distress of damsel slight
Will cause this pilgrim to stop and fight
No prince or noble not even knight
Yet marching proudly, bravely on
Holding high truths banner aloft
Proclaiming honesty, loyalty aloud
In hope and faith that she hears him in the crowd
Her ivory tower no prison will it be
For with hands soft yet strong she holds the key
And in her heart mind and soul, truth waits patiently
The quest is done, when with open arms
She welcomes honestly, one such as me
For the quest is for the woman
who hasnt learnt to lie
My Princess until I die
