About Me
Disclaimer: This user has very little interest in dating. Doubly so, since he wandering around Asia living on the cheap. I will update my location (China for now) when I stop wandering to refill my wallet, likely by teaching ESL but I'm open to new experiences. I feel there's no sense in meeting someone only to wander off in completely different directions the next morning. But, I am also open to meeting new people so if you want me to wait up for you somewhere and you can write an email and or profile that captures my heart and imagination, be my guest, you never know what I might do.

But since truth is often funnier than fiction I'm pulling the madness I've had in this space for years, extreme curling and golf-what nonsense and replace it with a simple story of what I've done in the last couple of years.

In October 2007 I went to Australia to complete my bicycle racer/ I wanna be the best drug free athlete I can be odyssey and embark upon a walk about to see the world. 4 countries, a notable sporting accomplishment later I was feeling a bit broke so on the suggestion of a Vietnamese guesthouse owner I got a job teaching English in HCMC VietNam. I was doing really well, new watch, new cellphone (after drowning my first cell), new computer, a couple of new cameras, a 40$ bicycle- great quality but as old as me- a 6$/night room and a small family run guest house in Pham Ngu Lao, well fed and plans to leave with about 7000$ in pocket(literally). In the beginning of 2009 I was told to come home because one of my favourite family members was dying. Another had died quite unexpectedly 3 months before... but I was not expected to return home for that. This was followed with the passing of that relative and 13 months of helping my relatives piece their lives back together after the catastrophes that had befallen them... and mooching off (and doing odd jobs, mostly home renovation) for the wealthier more fortunate relatives around. And visiting some friends. A lot of profiles say friends and family are top priority, in my case I have a story that proves it. Anyways I hate mooching and I'm not so big on the GTA. I've got about the same amount of money in the travel fund as I did when I landed, so it is time to go back to where I left off my life...A year older and no wiser. The ticket is booked bright and early on the 25th of April I'll be waiting to go through security and to get on a plane to HCMC where a friend has generously kept my 40$ super durable, theft resistant super asia touring bike. I've spent the last year touring Asia on my bike... with a 6 month break early on in Hanoi.

Welcome to the middle of the profile and it's time to play the fine the old photo game. I've posted the maximum allowable photos here 8. Seven of the photos are quite recent January 09 to January 2011 and one image is from November 2000. Fine the old image and tell me which one it is and you'll win.

Not in to dating... let me try explain this one. Your better off contacting me first because I only send off 1 or 2 first contact emails a year, but to be honest I don't get inspired by most of the profiles and pictures I see. I When I do send an email it to someone, wanting to meet them, they are a free traveler or a bike minded lady. Once in a couple blue moons I've been known to send an email not interested at all in dating but just to complement a creative profile. I rarely date as I'm usually concerned with more pressing life goals, things like racing bicycles, touring the world and I don't see much point in introducing myself to someone when I'm planning to move on and move along in a couple months, which for me is almost all the time I've moved 11 times in 5 years and spent 10 months just traveling. But I do know how rare it is to meet a special person and this is a rather low effort avenue to attracting or finding that special person. Not to mention it's somewhat amusing seeing what people will say about themselves and thinking of silly stuff to say here. So I leave my profile here for your amusement and I'll be checking profiles for my own amusement. It's not that I'm closed to the idea of meeting someone to share a life of fun, adventure, family and whatnot. However, for now I Have better things to do with my life.

First Date
The first date????. The fruit normally I give the first one away to be polite and eat the rest myself. mmm dates. Oh wait I've been informed that they mean the other date in which two people who find one another attractive go out together doing various activities and try to figure out if there is potential for a lifetime partnership. Um I haven't been on many... hence the handle- cyclingmonk. Given to me by my quebecois brother from another mother. This has been the story more so in the last 21 months. which was spent, for the most part, moving all the time a 2 month stop in Quebec, 2 months in Pennsylvania and 9 months in SaiGon- not really conducive to building relationships. Cyclingmonk get back on topic... remember date suggestions. I'm pretty open minded about this, a bike ride , run or something active is good. (if it's a bike ride and you scare me at least I'm sure I can get away. I'm very social on a bike and very easy to ride with because I don't have to prove I'm faster been there done that and have the hardware to prove it), Mini golf, bowling... maybe even I hike but that maybe that better for later when you know you can trust the other person. Meeting for a meal or a snack is good too. Even though I don't drink I'm fine with meeting in a tavern a burger and beer- I do it often with friends- they have the beer I have the burger. Combinations are great; mini-golf and a burger, run and cake. Bike n ski (cross-country on a local ski hill because the snow is nicely groomed) with hot chocolate afterwards... that'd be a dream date.

cyclingmonk has 2 roses that can be sent.
