About Me
I'm not searching for a girlfriend, "significant other", or soulmate. I think that people searching for something eventually get tired of the search and just settle for the best fit among the ones they've seen so far, like shopping for clothes. At least, the way I shop for clothes. :)
My approach is to just meet people, either at one of the POF events or individually for a coffee or a drink or a walk or whatever, and see if we enjoy each other's company enough to want to do it again. If sparks fly then great, but if not then we might become just friends, which is fine, and all either of us is out is a half an hour of our time and a coffee. Somehow that makes sense to me. In fact, I'd like to meet someone new for coffee every week, just for the experience of it. So drop me a line, it doesn't have to be a big deal. In fact, it shouldn't be, at this stage.
I remain friends with my ex-wife, not just because we co-parent the worlds best seventeen year old, but because even though neither of us wants to live with the other we do have much in common and enjoy each other's company. Occasionally, at least :). So if you hate your ex don't contact me. I don't understand hatred generally, let alone towards someone you once professed to love.
I'm not much of a TV watcher, other than the Turner Classic Movie channel. I don't watch any network TV series or reality shows, they just haven't grabbed me.
I would generally rather spend my time reading, having a beverage (coffee, beer, wine) somewhere with someone fun and intelligent, practicing guitar, surfing the 'net, doing something with my kid, shooting pool or darts, going to see some live theatre, just going for a walk, or whatever. Life's too short to just sit on your butt and watch TV.
I fulfilled a lifelong dream and took sailing lessons last summer. I loved it just as much as I thought I would and I plan on getting my own sailboat, maybe even living aboard.
My friends describe me as bright, funny, open-minded, spontaneous, high energy, positive and upbeat, and good at conversation. (Yep, I asked 'em. :)) I'm a very good listener. I'm definitely a guy who can laugh at himself, but I rarely laugh at others, unless they are laughing along. I will tease others a little, but only after I know them well enough to know how they will take it. The last thing I would want to do is hurt someone's feelings.
I am politically and socially a left-of-centre thinker and religiously agnostic. I read quite a bit about politics and religion, I guess because I'm fascinated by why people believe what they believe and also by why they consider their beliefs to be truths.
I'm one of those handy-with-tools kinda guys. I can fix computers, cars or houses.
I love animals. All of them. Dogs, cats, horses, parrots, you name it. I love to ride but haven't had my own horse for twenty five years now.
I'm lucky enough to stay fit just by eating right (well, most of the time) and doing a little exercise regimen every morning (again, most of the time!) By the way, my pictures are recent, except the one of my son and me in London, that was almost five years ago. The picture without the glasses was taken 21 April, '09.
I tend to be a bit shy at first but, then again, I've certainly been known to be very outgoing and forward. Depends on my mood I guess. I've decided to be more active on this site on the theory that meeting more people can only be good, even if I don't "click" with them there will probably at least be food for thought, or maybe a good friendship, as a result. And who knows, maybe that elusive "soulmate" is out there. I won't get "romantically" involved unless I feel that potential is there.
I read one profile on here that made me laugh when she said that most men put more thought into composing an ad to sell their truck than they do their profile. So I modified mine. Hope I didn't go overboard!

First Date
I like an oceanfront walk and then a coffee or maybe a drink somewhere. Something along those lines but I'm open to all suggestions.
