For now, I'd just like to find a new friend or friends to hang out with and do fun activities with, and hopefully get to know over time. While I'm not opposed to dating and/or a relationship if the right woman were to come into my life, what I'd really like to find right now is a cool person/people to go out and do fun things with. My friends and family are great, and I certainly understand them wanting to take it easy and not go out after a long workweek - sometimes I feel the same. But there is too much fun stuff out there to do - we live on LI and in the NYC metro area. I'm open to possibilities, but a couple of things that come to mind would be to go check out live music at local bars/pubs (I dig tribute bands and cover bands) and maybe even get out on the dance floor, or go and chill on the sand at the beach, while the weather is still warm. The key is good conversation and good company. I'm pretty easy-going and I think I'm fairly easy to get along with - hopefully you are too. Write to me if this sounds good.
Below is my dating profile, although right now I'm looking more for new friends to hang out with as described above.
"I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions." - Augusten Burroughs
I think I'm an all-around decent guy with a good deal going for me. I believe the best of me is still hiding up my sleeve.
I strongly believe in being true to yourself and genuine, and I try to be self-aware of those characteristics. I think true originality is just being yourself.
I love to laugh and make others laugh, and I love good comedy - especially the wacky/absurd kind - i.e. - Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, Jim Gaffigan, Judd Apatow movies, 30 Rock, SNL, Chapelle's Show, Chris Rock, Nick Swardson, Norm McDonald, Martin Short, It's Always Sunny, The League, Nick Kroll, etc.
I LOVE music, and am passionate about my favorite music artists/bands. My favorite all-time band is THE BLACK CROWES. Other top favs include: Led Zeppelin, Stone Temple Pilots, The Verve, Tom Petty, Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrison, U2, Coldplay and I think soon, My Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire, and The Black Keys will be added to the list.
I once saw where someone said they had "musical ADD," and I think that applies to me as well. Speaking of music, I also really enjoy dancing - not so much the meathead club thing though...more like bars and weddings...I'd be tempted to crash a wedding just to groove on the dancefloor (It looked like so much fun in "Wedding Crashers")... wanna join me? ;P
I'm also athletic, and enjoy playing softball. I definitely need to lose weight and get in better shape, but I'm still athletic .
Much more to tell, but I'll leave it at that for now - feel free to ask anything.
Some favorite song lyrics and snippets (I like quoting lyrics):
"To be yourself is all that you can do" - Chris Cornell/Audioslave
This is for all the lonely people
Thinking that life has passed them by
Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup
And ride that highway in the sky
This is for all the single people
Thinking that love has left them dry
Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup
You never know until you try
- "Lonely People" by America
"I wanna rock your gypsy soul!" - Van "The Man" Morrison
"Let's Dance!/Put on your red shoes and dance the blues..." - David Bowie
"The Best Is Yet To Come..." - Sinatra
"Everybody Got Their Something..." - Nikka Costa
"If your rhythm ever falls out of time/You can bring it to me, and I will make it alright" - Chris Robinson/The Black Crowes
"Think of me what you will/I've got a lil' space to fill"
"I've always tried to stay away from this year's big thing"
- Chris Robinson/Black Crowes
"It had to be you.../for all your faults, I love you still"
- as sung by Tony Bennett
"Sit back and watch my divine spark flash!" - CR/Black Crowes
"Look, in my opinion the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what-have-you. The right person is still going to think the sun shines out of your ass. That's the kind of person that's worth sticking with." -Juno-
On a side note, in case you were wondering, I was raised Catholic, but am not currently practicing...I'd describe myself currently as spiritual, but not religious I guess.
As a sort of "public service", I'd like to mention the name of a book I've discovered:
"Unhooked Generation: The Truth About Why We're Still Single", by Jillian Strauss.
Who knows, maybe if fellow single people read this book and pass it on, more of us will overcome the frustrations, disappointments, and aggravations of the dating world and find what we're looking for. If nothing else, I think this book might give people some answers as to why dating can be so difficult these days, and some support in dealing with it.
WI'll figure out something fun, depending on the person. Of course I'd listen to any suggestions that were offered as well.
Off topic, I've been thinking I might be persuaded to take ballroom dancing lessons... but of course I'd need a good partner =)
And finally, if you've made it all the way to the bottom of this profile, Congratulations! Tell them what they've won, Johnny!" haha I think I owe you a drink just for your effort. Thanks for reading! ;)
