About Walter
If you want to contact me, please have a recent photograph.
I enjoy imported cigars, smoke them frequently, and make no apologies. If you're allergic or just can't stand to be around smokers, I'm not the one for you.
A statement that expresses my philosophy well comes from Dan Landau on WebMD:"A great kiss is an adventure in itself, not a stepping point to something else." Put another way, kissing just for the sake of kissing is a lot of fun! (Was there ever any doubt?)
The lady I hope to find will be reasonably close to my own age. It's important that we have common interests and life experiences. If you don't remember the JFK assassination or the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, you're almost certainly too young.
I enjoy going out to dinner, movies, book stores and small places with good live music. A theme park or county fair with a good midway can be fun. And I enjoy travel and sightseeing, just not alone. But I'm really more of a homebody, and can be perfectly happy watching TV with a special woman at my side.
My main hobby now is computers –- that includes building my own machines and upgrading the hardware in my friends' computers -- when it's practical, sometimes it isn't. If you have a slow, buggy computer that may be a little under-powered or have a virus, I'm someone you want to know.
A few quick favorites:
Music – Top 40 oldies, classic rock, blues, most (but not all) country, and some jazz.
Movies -- action-adventure, dramas, some sci-fi, thrillers and comedies.
TV -- mystery-dramas like NCIS, Criminal Minds and Castle, sitcoms, history/documentary programs, news, some late-night programs, and classic movies on cable.
Food -- I like just about anything, with a special fondness for Asian cuisines and southern home cooking.
Favorite authors – James Patterson, David Baldacci, John Sandford, Michael Connelly, Vince Flynn, Tom Clancy, and most techno-thriller writers. I sometimes re-read classic science fiction novels by the “old masters”. I also read some history and biographies of interesting people. My newest favorite writer is Ayn Rand -- how did I fail to read "Atlas Shrugged" until now?
Magazine rack – computer magazines, Reader's Digest, Consumer Reports and do-it-yourself magazines.
Other interests – zoos, aquariums and museums; the Memphis Zoo is one of my favorite places, and I haven't been in awhile. I'm selective, but will go as far as Memphis, Nashville or Tunica to see a favorite act in concert. The NASA museum at Huntsville, AL is fantastic!
Ladies, please understand that when it comes to “understanding” women all guys are pretty dense, and I'm probably worse than average. If you want me to know something, a subtle hint probably isn't enough; things get lost in translation from Venus to Mars. :)
I welcome e-mails, chats/IMs and (in time) telephone calls; but text messages are better for quick messages than conversation.
First Date
I prefer a casual meeting over coffee, lunch or dinner first; if we are both interested we might extend it into an actual date, or at least plan a "real" date after we meet.
What to do on a first date? We're still getting to know each other, so I like something where we can talk such as dinner, a museum, or the zoo. I like movies too, but that's no place to talk; we can save that for a later time.
