About Me
Some cultures describe themselves through stories. If I was to choose a story to describe myself - hmmmmmm - here's a good one.
A few years ago I was transferred to Brazil. Upon arrival, my boss Arno asked me to give a short introductory speech about myself to the organization. I don't do many speeches but fair enough. I wrote the speech and then I got the idea that maybe it would be more meaningful if I delivered the speech in Portuguese. I have no idea why I thought this was a good idea, but at the time it seemed kind of inspired and culturally sensitive.
I did not speak Portuguese, so I bought a dictionary and tried my best to translate. The first line was "I am really excited to be here today?" (translated: Eu estou muito excitada para ser aqui hoje!). Not very profound but I had to keep it simple.
Standing at the podium I began "Eu estou muito excitada.." and then deafening laughter. My boss leans over and whispers into my ear - "Brett you just said that you are sexually aroused to be here today!". What? Then I burst out into laughter. (And please realize that the sexual reference is critical to making the story funny - I am not looking for the attention of perverts)
Everyday from that day forward for the next three years I was greeted by everyone with "Brett are you sexually aroused to be here today?". Yes! Yes I am.
Still makes me laugh. To be honest it was the best thing that could have happened - Brazilians appreciate a good laugh.
I am intrigued by women who are independent, intelligent, interesting and funny (i wish that started with an "i")
