About Me
We have our little lists of characteristics that the woman or man of our dreams will have. And then we meet someone and we can't breathe properly and we stumble over words... and that's where it begins. I am rational, sometimes too much, but at some point reason fails. Romantic love comes and it goes, and it is wonderful and exciting while it is here. It's not enough, just on its own, to build a lasting partnership. But where else can we start?
Respect, compassion, caring, and a true appreciation for the other person, warts and all, will take us through the inevitable decline of the "rush". Knowledge of who the other person is, revealing of oneself, these take time, and at some point we just have to trust our intuition and start. So, ya, I'm hoping for 'chemistry' and excitement, but I want there to potentially be more.
My friends would say that I am intelligent and generous, opinionated but open-minded, kink friendly but basically vanilla, very well read, honest, a good cook and wine-maker. They would probably also say that I'm sometimes tactless, and don't tolerate fools or liars .
I have an MA in History and I'm very interested in that. I like kids, although my own are now adults. Dogs, cats, ferrets and snakes are all okay with me. Chimpanzees I have heard get grumpy when they're older, so maybe not them. I look my age, I like being a grown up.
I'm a Wiccan Priest and my religion is important to me. Wicca is not big on converting the infidels, so relax - so long as you are tolerant of a polytheistic, Goddess-and-nature based syncretic religion, we'll get on okay.
I love music but can't play an instrument, love film and art (tend to be off on the edgy side on the film and art, except I don't like horror or violent films or wanking heavy metal and shock value rap), and tend to be a packrat (for books and CDs, mainly).
Oh yes, I have a massage table and I'm not afraid to use it. And not principally for seduction - your back hurts, hop on the table, I'll make it better. A dream of mine is to get a friend that is also good at massage! (I'll teach)
I am intelligent, generous, and interesting. And I am a loyal friend - I find it very difficult to write off people once I have committed to them. Since a lot of women seem to want a "kind, good-hearted man" let me make it clear at the start- I am a kind, good-hearted man (now my mailbox will overflow!) but I don't like motorcycles (which will drop a few, oh well). And, you know, I'm not looking for a "best friend" but a life partner, a lover, potentially a wife.
I like and respect women, as well as finding them physically attractive. I like the way women smell, and the way that they move. I like femininity - that difference in the ways that women and men see the world. I don't like women pretending, or actually, being incompetent - women are just as smart, just as capable, and just as complex as men. I'm interested in dating women who are my equals, with their own opinions and ways of doing things. It's more interesting.
Life is more satisfying when it is shared. It's tough when I think that I have friends, some close and dear, but there's nobody who loves me (except my sons). It's a hole in my life.

First Date
The "first meeting" should probably be your standard coffee in some public place kind of deal. I like to eat and so going out for a meal of some sort would be up there on my list for the first real date. Walking around the city (NOT doing the Grouse Grind!), sitting somewhere and talking, going to a movie. A friend of mine suggested that I be sure to ask "What is the meaning of life?" on the first date (I wonder how many second dates he has?) but hey, I'm up for the challenge of a good philosophcal conversation if that turns your crank.
