About Me
Hello/Bonjour/Salaam Alaikum/Ciao :) Thanks for stopping by.
In a nutshell, what drives me: a love of learning, culture, traveling, new experiences, fascinating people, and big ideas. I’m a bit spontaneous and most definitely an extrovert. It would be great to meet an interesting, open-minded woman who can keep up!
During the day (and sometimes evenings) I run a branding and design agency. I’m VERY fortunate to wake up every morning doing something that I love. On the side I’m involved in documentary work, focused on projects around cultural diversity and dissecting multiculturalism (I’ll gladly ramble on about given the opportunity).
I love music. Whatever the online equivalent to tirelessly digging around for vinyl in a record store is I think aptly illustrates my crack-like addiction for it ;) Anything from experimental electronic and house to folk rock, latin, neo-classical, and middle eastern. A few gems on my playlist at the moment: Kings of Convenience, Yann Tiersen, LTJ Bukem, Ulrich Schnauss, Balkan Beat Box, Caribou, Bonobo.
Good film follows a close second. Truthfully I can’t remember when I last watched a Hollywood blockbuster, but I keep an open mind and always make an effort to expand my horizons. A foreign film, good company and a bottle of wine beats any night out at a club :) If you’re curious and keen to check out some less-mainstream flicks, here’s a few that top my list: Exils, Sin Nombre, Gegen die Wand, Dirty Pretty Things, No One Knows About Persian Cats, Eastern Plays.
I frequent (perhaps too often) Vancouver’s many hole in the wall spots: cafes, markets, small pubs and live music venues. I try to stay fairly active and I’d love to find a good partner in crime to expand my horizons with. At the moment I’m not so stellar at Latin dancing, but I’m hoping that’ll be my next undertaking.
Traveling. To date, I’ve ventured through Western Europe, Eastern Europe, North Africa, and Turkey. I’ve partied with Brazilian samba bands in Italy, been held up by corrupt border patrol in Bosnia-Hercegovina, smoked hookah while listening to the evening call-to-prayer on the Bosphorus in Istanbul, and hung out with artists in communes on the outskirts of Budapest. Like most people I’ve chatted with on this site, it’s safe to say I have a love affair with cultures and adventure! I’d like to go back to the Balkans sometime this year, and even the Middle East if it’s possible. Latin America in the near future would also be great. Always down to trade travel stories and meet fellow back-packers :)
And, of course, women. I try to keep an open mind but there's a few high-level things I always look for:
- Women who are passionate about what they do, but also laid back and "go with the flow"
- A taste for good film/art/culture/etc. or at least a willingness to experience more of it
- I love bringing people into my world, introducing them to things I'm passionate about. So an open mind is key!
- Spontaneous. I tend to spend too much time working, and I'd love to date someone who brings a balance to my life
- A sharp intellect/wit. I love women who can keep me on my toes, and whom I can learn from
Above all I’m looking for authenticity. As you might suspect I’m completely open-minded with respect to cultural background, ethnicity, etc. I’m a bit of a mutt myself :)
I don’t really have huge expectations from this site to be honest. It’d be great to connect with more interesting people, although meeting the right girl wouldn’t be unwelcome ;)
Hopefully I’ve piqued your interest a little. Drop me a line!
