Above all else, I enjoy making people laugh, and laughing at myself and the world around me.
I have lived in Ottawa all my life, have an English degree from the University of Ottawa, and now work as a speechwriter in a federal government department.
I enjoy movies ranging from the classics, film noir, and 70s crime thrillers to cheesy and nonsensical 80s action movies (think Commando and Road House), foreign films, and quirky indies. My favourite movies are Rushmore, The Big Lebowski, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
My taste in music spans all genres, but I especially enjoy listening to post-punk, New Wave, 90s Britpop, and indie rock. Favourites include Cut Copy, Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths, Pulp (finally got to see them this year - in Barcelona!), The Black Keys, Tom Waits, David Bowie, The Velvet Underground, Elliott Smith, LCD Soundsystem, Beck, Spoon, Depeche Mode, the Handsome Furs, Wilco, and Arcade Fire.
Other things I like: double espressos and vodka tonics; art deco architecture; the writing of Christopher Hitchens (a personal hero of mine); watching (and now playing) soccer; going to see live shows; any and all HBO and AMC shows; NBC's Thursday night lineup (including the funniest show currently on TV: Parks and Recreation); vintage analog synthesizers; and discussing and making references to obscure TV shows, one-hit (or no-hit) wonders, and other pop culture ephemera.
