Well it behooves me to make a few general comments on the profiles ive see seen. little trite and alot negative. I guess mate selection is like that, we probably know more about what we dont want than what we do. Especially for women, who after all, are the masters of mate selection. this is probably why men have subverted oppressed, burka'd women from time immemorial. Look at the story of adam and even- who created sin( this story really shouldnt be taken literally. So Adam and Eve become aware after they eat the apple and Adam's awareness makes him self concious. All of a sudden hes vulnerable( to Eves mate selction) so he goes behind a bush to hide his shame. So God asks, uh adam why ye hidin from me. And instead of exlpaining his self consciousness Adam blames Eve for it. thats really the first sin- awareness wasnt the first sin- but its a pre requisite for it, bc you cant really sin if your not aware.
the other thing i see on here that gives me pause is the whole I'm an optimist/ glass half full kind of person. i mean, isnt the glass both half full and half empty? Sometimes life kicks me in the balls and sometimes it tickles me balls.
The tragically hip writes that we live to survive our paradoxes. i like that line.
I'm intense and given to be inquisitive about dark things. and i'm very intersted in spirituality. I'm interested in social and political issues, but I'm fairly displeased by rigidness and an inability to laugh at ourselves and each other. think of Adam projecting his self consciousness onto Eve. Or how about Cain and Abel. Cain cant stand Abel because Able is able. Cain lives a miserbale life and says hey god, everything i do, turns to crap and everythign that Able touches turns to gold. whats up with that. and God says, dude, you can have what Able has too, you just have to understand my law and live it. But even with this Abel isnt capable of dealing with the envy he feels for his brother. And instead of accepting his limitations with grace he kills his brother.
Come to think of it maybe projection is the first sin. Adam and Cain do it to avoid their own issues. I work with people with intellectual disabilities, mostly doing advocacy work which i really enjoy. One of the things that are clear to me from this work is that we project our fears onto groups and then do really bad things to them. For people with disabiltiies theyve been banished, murdered, and incarcerated for no other reason than that they had disabilties. think about other devalued groups- the elderly for example. we distantiate ourselves from them by putting them somewhere else. We project our fears of our own frailty onto them. and most of us, if we're lucky will become old and disabled. but we dont like to think about it.
I guess lastly im a bit of a snob when it comes to film, music art...if you like adam sandler movies and nickelback, I'll probably judge you and insist you do better for yourself. If you like David Lynch, or OZ, or Sunset Rubdown I'll like you just the way you are.
