About Me
I get my jollies on the forums. There are some great people there and I enjoy talking, arguing & fighting with them. Back in the old days here, I could usually be found making wisecracks in the science/philosophy forum. Considering that you can tell what someone is like by the heroes they admire, I'll tell you who hangs in my Hall of Heroes...
Mohandas Gandhi (for showing us how), John Lennon (for making us "Imagine"), Albert Einstein (more for his humanity than his science), Albert Schweitzer (for his great love of us all), Voltaire (for his irreverence for the status quo and his sarcastic wit), Charles D¡ckens (for knowing us so well), Frank Capra (for being a more modern D¡ckens), Thomas Jefferson (for seeing the obvious, and warning us), Vincent van Gogh (for his raw talent and sensitivity to the human soul), Carl Gauss (not the nicest kid on the block, but a Prince just the same), The Dalai Lama (for his belief in compassion), Paul Potts (for his incredible gift) Andrew Wiles (for following his dream till it came true), M.C. Escher (for his unique perspective), Woody Guthrie (for telling us who's land this is) And Arlo (for reminding us), Lenny Bruce and George Carlin (for pointing out the lies we live with and by), Srinivasa Ramanujan (for proving there exist pearls left rolling in pigsties because we call them swine), Godfrey Hardy (for spotting a pearl), CHARLy (for teaching us to value happiness over intellect), John Doe (for meeting us and letting us join his club),Tycho Brahe (for his life-loving cantankerous nature), W.C. Fields (Who wouldn't love a guy who hates dogs & little kids?), Evariste Galois (for his utter passion - What a shame...), Martin Luther King (for reminding us of the view from the mountain top), Paul Erdos (for knowing who stole his socks & getting even by stealing pages out of His Book), JFK & Bobby (for trying to stop the suffering), Josip Broz Tito (for uniting his people and making them happy), Kurt Godel (for proving that sometimes truth just IS), Bertrand Russell (for the genius of paradoxically ruining his own work), Alan Turing (for being so mechanically minded), "Monsieur Leblanc" (for pretending), Georg Cantor (for looking infinity in the eye...and seeing it), Vladimir Putin (for his courage and fortitude) Joseph Merrick (for being such a beautiful child), Niels Henrik Abel (for being poor), Hugo Chavez (for being a Robin Hood), Salvatore Allende (for not giving in), Fidel Castro (for saying enough is enough), János Bolyai (for his independence), Jean-Bertrand Aristide (for not giving in), Elliot Ness (for inadvertantly giving a new meaning to "untouchable"), Robert: Menard (for showing us the real law), Dilbert's garbageman (for his insight), You (for being the true source of all genius and power and holding the fate of the world in your hands. You belong at the top of my list of heroes, because you have the power to turn Earth into Paradise, and you will, for all our sakes.), Me (for heroically wasting my time writing all this crap -- Just kidding...It's a labour of love and the baby's head is showing now! - get ready, I'll soon be handing out the cigars!)
If what I've said about my heroes sounds strange to you, maybe a few motivational quotes will help guide you as you grope in the dark on your lonely quest for happiness (you're almost there, I assure you):
"Believe nothing that you hear and only half of what you see. What remains may not be the truth, but you can be reasonably sure you've eliminated half of the lies." - a garbageman
"First imagine...THEN criticize!" - a garbageman
"Compassion is a treasure beyond measure and a gift to bestow on everyone." - a garbageman
"Justice does not exist as a law of nature. It is our burden to create it, insist on it, and to fight for it." - a garbageman
"Justice is the consequence of a law called natural law, and that is a law of nature...or God, depending on your point of view." - Just Dukky
"Be the change you want to see in the world" - Gandhi
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead
"The impossible is only achieved by those persistent souls who were too dumb to know that it was." - A garbageman
"The world won't be saved by those who think it can't, or even by those who know it can, but by those with the courage to do the right thing." - A garbageman
"Those who can't see aren't as blind as those who won't look." - a garbageman
"It isn't failure unless you've quit before you've tried everything." - a garbageman
"If at first you don't succeed, try again. Then quit. There's no use being a damn fool about it." - W.C. Fields (I loved WC, but he was wrong - Be a damned fool! - The quote was just for laughs.)
There are some things so serious you have to laugh at them. - Niels Bohr
"God is a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh." - Voltaire
'The highest forms of understanding we can achieve are laughter and human compassion." - Richard Feynman
"All social satirists go to heaven; they are 'persona non grata' in Hell." - a garbageman
It is impossible to defeat an enemy who makes you laugh." - Sun Tan's The Art of Peace©
(So empty the clips and load the mortar with a few cold beers eh?) - JustDukky
"The man who can't laugh hasn't the strength to win his battles. He has lost the ability to wage peace and surrenders to the despair of war." - Sun Tan's The Art of Peace©
"I'm pretty sure all comedians go to heaven; the last thing Satan wants is people laughing at him." - a garbageman
"It is far better to divorce yourself from your misery than to allow your misery to divorce you from your humanity." - John Doe
Laughter embraces you in the loving arms of humanity. It warms the coldest of souls and welcomes them to the family. - John Doe
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Your heart is not something you lose. It has to be given away." - a garbageman
"If you want to obey God, stop studying scripture and do as your heart tells you." - a garbageman

First Date
I never thought I'd be filling out this lonelyhearts crap again, but...well... Here I am doing it...
Aside from entertaining visions of the usual twisted sexual fantasies that fly out the window on a first date, I'm pretty open. I don't like the public scene very much and really prefer a classic movie, or a nice long talk over coffee about esoteric philosophical stuff most people never heard of and couldn't give a sh*t about.
In point of fact, after many years of trying to make my marriage complete once again, I've given up on that and have settled down to a "partial" marriage." I guess we all know what that means, so no further explanation needs to be provided at this point. If you think you might like me, and I think I might like you, contact me and we can discuss a ransom-free picture exchange to see if things might warrant further exploration.
Update: The "partial marriage" is a lot like Humpty Dumpty. I've given up trying to put it back together while the other party continues to scatter the pieces.
