We met with a quick “Hi,” from Nancy on POF. That led to 4 really nice dates involving dinner, Harley rides, water skiing, sunsets on the lake, and a weekend at a log cabin with friends at a motorcycle rally. The weekend was great. A few days later I got a call. She had gotten bit on the face by a venomous bug while riding and was almost hospitalized from a bad infection with facial sores; of coarse she didn’t want to be seen that way so I had to wait 2 weeks to see her again. I planned a ride along the bluffs of the Mississippi where we would meet up with another couple with a motor home overlooking the river. This date would change our lives forever. Nancy arrived. It was so good to see her again. We packed the bike and off we went. Halfway there the trip was diverted when a SUV turned in front of us. My first thought was to jump, but feared Nancy may die, so stayed on to cushion her impact. The next time I saw her she was at my side in the ER. I was happy to see she was ok It would seem like an angel picked her up and placed her on the other side of the car. A witness saw her fly straight up and over without a scratch but a lot of bruising. I didn’t fare as well. I stayed in the hospital for a month with several operations. Nancy drove 3 hrs round trip and stayed every weekend. She would wake at night if I would move at all and massage whatever parts hurt the most. I was in a wheelchair for another 2 months and therapy for the next year along with another operation on my shoulder. I felt bad she had to go through so much with moving the wheelchair in and out of the trunk, helping me with showers. Yes, I was pretty helpless. I’m not sure I could have gone thru all that without her. She is the kindest soul I ever met. Never thinking of herself first. After 2 divorces trust was a big concern but it is very clear to me that I finally found my lover, my partner and my best friend for life. She has angels watching over her and now she is my little angel.
